@AfriNatic is training up an "@AfriJunior" to assist you part of your repertoire? Should be, since many people are with AH purely due to your support and the Afri* replacements when you are away are.. not so good.

Technically Mybroadband falls under the social media team so should I ever be unavailable they will stand in for me.

Yeah, but technically they don't. I'm with the other guys; only reason I'm with Afrihost is because of your awesome support. When you were on leave the last time, your colleagues dropped the ball spectacularly.

Morning,

In which region are you located?

I saw an issue in CPT with some CDN's that caused Cloudflare to pull their CPT prefixes and reroute to JHB. It could have been the same issue with Fastly.
Cape Town, seems to have reverted to normal a few minutes after the post according to brother. Also this was on ipv4 if it's of any relevance.

Morning, I wanted to find out some advice regarding latencies to overseas servers specifically for games.

Is there anything I can do to get the lowest possible latency to both EU and Latin America servers or is it just physically impossible given the distance. What disappoints me is that there were plans to have a sub cable built between SA and BR but it never went through.

Regards

Morning,

We are experiencing some increased latency during the evening peak. Our upgrades at LINX did not go as planned and the Vendor is busy working on a fix.

That said the cable was completed SACS but we don't use it because it breaks routing and you will find that traffic from EU prefers to go via the US and Brazil to ZA making the latency much worse than via London to CPT.

I see, that would indeed be worse. I don't mind playing EU as the average is around 170ms which is playable however recently I have been having lag spikes which I'm not is because of the game servers itself or something else such as the evening peak increase as you have mentioned.

I do wonder though if there are any efforts being made by anyone to reduce overall latency between SA and the rest of the world.

Yes we are seeing the increased latency from 19:00 to around 22:00 daily. Hoping it will be resolved before the weekend.

Once again Netflix is screwed. Speedtests are normal but I'm watching a circle going around and around

Hi,

I see you are in East London. Which FNO are you using?

What is the speeds from fast.com when you are experiencing buffering?

I recently had fibre installed in my area with Afrihost (Vuma Reach) and opted for the 100mbps download package and for an additional router (the Huawei Wifi AX3). While my internet is perfectly fine with the use of a ethernet cable with my PC on both the ONT and the router, there are some irregularities with the WiFi.

Connected to the WiFi on the Huawei Wifi AX3, doing a speedtest gives me 100mpbs down and 50mpbs up, but for some reason, it is just slow? I get 3ms ping but apps take an age to load, webpages are ridiculously slow to load too, I have the Speedtest app installed on my phone but when doing a speedtest on the app, it seems to work flawlessly. On the ONT connected to the Wifi, I barely achieve 50mpbs down but it loads apps and webpages almost instantly. Very confusing to figure out the performance of both devices, I kept the ONT in the state which it was installed but factory reset the Huawei router hoping it would fix itself but it hasn't.

Any tips on how to fix these issues or should I contact Afrihost and get a new router instead?

Hi,

Did you change any DNS settings? Also did you set the AX3 up in extender mode?

I have the setting for the bands to be combined, splitting the bands still gives me the same issue. Slow performance in apps and web pages but fast speeds when conducting a speed test.

Hi,

Not seeing any issues on our side. Also don't see any increase in support requests.

Have you ruled out the possibility of wifi or router issues?
