Afrihost - pure internet joy?

Sorry Bull****

Clientzone " FIXMY LINE " does not work. If anything it ****s your line up even more than what it was.
Your support has gone down the tubes and quite frankly I will be recommending people away from afrihost.

It's an awesome service that we can offer here. You also need to remember that having your line with us you can perform port reset, upgrade/ downgrade the line, troubleshoot the line etc etc with the click of a button as opposed to picking up the phone to call Telkom.

While we cannot perform miracles, we do generally have faults resolved quicker than a typical end user would. I'm positive if your line was with Telkom the turn around times wouldn't be any different - in fact, they'd probably be longer.

The fix my line app can see issues if your line/ exchange is unstable. There needs to be management packets sent/ received. I'm well aware of your thread and will be responding there with your relevant topic.

Don't blame Afrihost for your crappy line, and don't use 'fix my line' if it doesn't work for you. When I was experimenting with my line's fastest stable speed, I was changing the sync rate 5-10 times a day. Each change was just a minute on the phone to Afrihost.

The simple fact is that Afrihost is the only ISP that offers affordable uncapped DSL that has no usage thresholds and is completely unshaped 24/7. Switching to Afrihost Business is the best thing I've ever done.

I like your reasoning :D

I don't understand your reasoning. If it does not do what it says it does, then why is it there in the first place.
The fix my line function is the first port of call when you are experiencing problems with your line.

No, no, they're not. They do have usage thresholds and they are not "completely unshaped".

I've thrown a lot at my Afrihost business connection since getting it in March last year. It is definitely unshaped and unthrottled, which is their policy anyway.

As I have learnt the hard way... there is no such thing as "internet joy".
To find a sembalance of joy requires that you do not tie yourself down to any contract, and change your ISP every few months to get the best deal/best performance

The ISP industry is really a joke in this country.. you have to move with the in-crowd unfortunately.

I believe you because you say so.

Or you could just contact Afriman here on the forum and ask. The business accounts are unshaped and unthrottled.

Seeing as you are the one claiming that Afrihost are liars, how about you provide some evidence as to the extent that they shape and throttle?

If you would take the time and root around the forums there are plenty of examples of Afrihost throttling.

Go on - live a little, take a walk on the wild side. Use the search function.

I was with mweb for 3 years and have been with afrihost for 8 months so I can safely say that Afrihost support is a lot better.

The issue lies with Telkom and trying to get them to do anything in the December 'freeze' period is always a nightmare!

No there aren't. The business uncapped feedback thread only has some people having issues with their lines.

You are contributing absolutely nothing to this thread. I gave my anecdotal evidence as to why I think you're talking crap - now present yours.

This is exactly my conclusion!

This is my thread!

Why would i even respond to anecdotal evidence.

Facts or GTFO.

Just because you started a thread doesn't mean you have dominion over all the discussion contained therein. 90% of the discussions on this forum are anecdotal, because providing verifiable proof for every statement you make is impossible and because we have no reason to believe our fellow forumites would deceive one another when it comes to these sorts of matters. In any case, you've claimed that Afrihost shape and throttle, but there is no clear substantiation to be found anywhere by you or someone else in support of such a claim. It's not my job to do your citation for you.

But as you say, you created this thread, so the onus is on you to substantiate your claim that Afrihost is a bad ISP. Your OP just shows your stupidity - transferring your line back to Telkom as if you'll achieve anything more than inconveniencing yourself further and costing yourself marginally more, and expecting world class service around Christmas and New Year's. 7 days for a Telkom tech to arrive unannounced is totally normal in this country.

Since March last year I've experienced absolutely no shaping and perfectly acceptable customer support. The first time my internet went down inexplicably it only took 3 days for Afrihost to organise Telkom to fix the cabling near my house. The second time, Telkom came over the very next day and replaced the filter on my line. I've converted a number of people I know to Afrihost business and all seem to be happy as a pig in s**t over the move, especially considering it costs the same as Mweb Premium, which many of us were on before.

Their support was great until the recent boom. Have you had to log anything recently? They absolutely promised yesterday that someone will contact me yesterday or this morning to sort out an overcharge of R700 because for some inexplicable reason the supports can't sort it out when I have them on the line. This after a manager already failed to call me back earlier.

It's 11:00 now. I know they won't call. I've resigned myself to the fact that it's more effort to contact these guys than it's worth.
The account was also great until recently. I get home and downloads and P2P are throttled to 18% of my package speed (this happens regardless of how much you use, it's been standard practice for 2 or 3 months now). That means unless I wait till late at night, my 4mb package gets 80kb/s.

So I can echo the other host of threads about Afrihost not exactly being pure Internet Joy.

You're not on a business account though. I can't attest to the quality of the standard accounts because I've never had one and don't know anyone with one.

Afrihost business is where it's at. Perhaps you should consider going unshaped at a slower speed? I can torrent any time of day at full speed. Unshaped is amazing.
