Hi Afriguy Or Any Afrihoster

I am about to be one of the Mwebers who jump ship, I am in my notice period, but will be switching to the 50GB capped option. Will I be throttled like above before I reach my Cap?

Regards

Our Capped and Business Uncapped accounts are completely unshaped, throttling doesn't even exist on our network :)

I am shaped very rarely on my 1 meg account. And even if I am shaped its never more than 25%. And even so, gaming latency on the 1 meg line to EU severs is always the same despite being shaped some what.

I will post a picture of my current 1 Meg status later.

If you don't want any shaping, look at the business account as said above.

That's really awesome to hear, sounds like our accounts are really working for you. While we don't want to ever shape anyone, we have to in order to keep the network running smoothly. As long as your realtime services are 100% we're happy :D

Why don't you rather get a proper uncapped account? Afrihost business and Openweb GOLD are awesome.

These speeds are OK, while not at it's full potential :(
Please drop me a PM with your details and a traceroute to YouTube and I'll see what can be tweaked on our end.

They are having serious issues. I've been with them for a while. Last month the issues started and it's been getting progressively worse. My 4MB uncapped is running at 30kb/s right now.

As I posted this my shaping has gone from 6% to 50%. Can only hope it gets better.

They insist that they have sufficient capacity, but I don't think they do.

Large influx from users jumping ship from mweb causing issues I think.

I'm very happy with my Afrihost service though. (1Mbps Business Uncapped).

Afriman admitted their network was under heavy load

Pffft. Getting capped before the end of the month is very irritating. Uncapped allow me to keep my family of fondleslabs and smartphones connected 24x7 without worrying about getting capped.

Exactly. It also stops the OMG I have 10GB left this month and 1 day to use it, and I don't know what I'm going to download!!

If Bandwidth could be carried over month to month it would be great. I hate the "use it or lose it" approach to capped bandwidth. I've paid for 50GB or whatever, let me use it!

Nonsense. Uncapped at a good price will always sell well provided speeds are acceptable but its a very price sensitive product.

Capped is the only way to go. If you are running out simply top up with what you need.

Afrihost's current offering are perfect for me, although I have also noticed that Youtube videos don't stream properly. Not sure if that is a Youtube or Afrihost issue? Fortunately I don't use that site too much.

I was having some Youtube issues the other day as well. Was struggling to stream 720p when I can normally stream 1080p. Was also getting ridiculously high latency to the local speed test servers, something like 300ms :/ Need to actually retest when I get home to see if it's improved.

having had capped and uncapped I have to disagree, especially as my usage is pretty variable on a month to month basis, some months I wouldn't use my entire cap (and so lose the data I'd paid for) other months I'd have to top up a couple of times. Uncapped is less hassles and no need to worry about suddenly having to top up
