Actually, I have to disagree.
Afrihost should be ashamed of themselves.
This morning I ran out of bandwidth so I decided to try Afrihost to see how they worked. Normally I top up with Axxess and never have any problems. I bought 2 GB pre-paid using my credit card. The transaction went through with no problems and I was told to check my email for further instructions. The email arrived and provided login details.
However, I kept on getting "authentication failed..." error messages from my router. I SMSed help to the number provided (still waiting for a call back).
In the meantime, I switched back to my Telkom account (now capped) and decided to log into the Afrihost client zone. When I check my bandwidth in the clientzone, it shows in a big red block "Verification Required! We have to verify your identity on this account before it can be activated:"
WTF! At no stage during the purchase stage did Afrihost alert me that this was a requirement for pre-paid purchases using a credit card. This was never a requirement with Axxess. If I had known this, I would never have proceeded with the transaction. I understand that this is necessary for ongoing debit orders, but for a once off credit card purchase, it is rediculous! I have never had to provide this for any of my online purchases in all the years that I have used the internet. And this is Sunday, there is no way that I can fax a copy of my ID to their offices. (Not from where I live).
Now, I appreciate that Afrihost has been generous in offering a limited time offer of R29/GB, but this experience leaves a sour taste in my mouth. Like some of Cybersmart's T&C's, this is a poor business practice.
