Hope it gets back up soon![]()
It is sad indeed. It runs at 5kb/s for a second and then it dies completely.

Throughput is pretty bad for the moment in the Cape. Apparently the Telkom guys are trying to get it back up now![]()

Me too. I'm sorry AfriMan, I know it's not under your control.
This is the second time (third if you count my AH account upgrade to 10Mb, but that was my decision) this month alone that I'm paying for additional data just to download something simple as email.
I know the IPC issue isn't an AH problem, but it does come to show the long way internet access in South Africa still has to go.
Yes. Just finished. Whooo hooo. Now I hope its up by the time I have to start with the linux drivers![]()

Seems to be fixed.
To be honest, at this rate it really looks like Mobile Data will be much more of a norm in a few years. Considering the fixed costs and technicalities, mobile is becoming more and more reasonable for business.
It cannot be considered reasonable until mobile can compete with the already expensive ADSL.
Even for business, mobile is just too expensive in this economy.
Anyway, if the powers that be had removed there fingers when they were supposed to South Africa wouldn't be in the ludicrous broadband position it is in now. We're easy 5+ years behind the rest of the world.
It depends on how you look at it, I guess, For the most part, I'm just glad that we can offer our clients a broader range of options for practical and financial needs![]()
Which is good but the notion that mobile will be a viable alternative to cable connections in the near future is a pipe dream, unfortunately.
Mobile operators are still to greedy and keep throwing infrastructure investment as a deterrent for price cuts.
Well, if you think about it - no IPC costs, mean that networks can really grow at their own pace. What would be great is to see more players in the market and that will probably happen. But I personally feel that mobile bandwidth will continue to drop in price as we get more consumer spend and devices on the market.
I recently was chatting to someone who was working on systems to replace CB radios with IRC Chat services on smartphones - so I think we'll see a lot more of those ideas surfacing![]()
