During that time we saw the servers peak when it came to load. After we'd sold out of the first 1000 units we released more - giving away a total of 8000 units.
There are still some available so see if you can order now :)

You may want to try a different browser and clear the cookies/ cache.

363 left and counting. So jump in while you still can.

Noooooooo! MyBB you traitorous bastard of a forum.. Y U NO send me email update when someone replies?!!!? /rant.

Ah well, guess I'll wait for the official release then :crying:, thanks anyway for the update AfriGuy. :)

Regardless of the above, wanted to find out.. Can the data sim be used in any device or is it limited to an Afrihost MiFi router? Liked the idea of a free MiFi but actually want this for my Asus Tab and would rather just use the built in 3G than buy the MiFi

After all the hype from today - A random Asymmetric digital subscriber line question came into mind :p

How does Afrihost differentiate from HTTP Website Bandwidth and HTTP Downloading??

Always wanted to know this...

From a low-level perspective there is no difference (I've written my own browsers in C to run from a command-line perspective) between files grabbed directly, ie a http download, and how a website is loaded. If you load a website, it all gets fetched as resources are found, in the same way that an http file is fetched if you call it directly.

But as to download sites, ie mediafire, etc, those are generally exceptions written into the shaping systems.

probably the size of the GET using HTTP - so really really big websites might have the same problem if they pull all at the same time.

I see... but what about rogue websites, not only major file sharing one's.

Thats what I thought. I was kind of thinking that after the shaping system goes over 2MBish (or whatever the average site is), it figures out a website is no longer a website and in fact a download, and then applies shaping. Ive noticed that for the first few seconds (if shaped, which I havnt been this month yet :p) the download runs at full speed before the shaping system kicks in. Just my thought, dunno if its right.

You can get a Pre_order now with a MiFI for R796 (instead of the full retail price of R997). It's a great saving, not to mention that the data bundle itself is still a steal.

We're only doing limited subsidised MiFi's, so get on this ASAP ;)

We analyse the packet signature rather than the HTTP port. So we can see if this is a download or browsing (real time) traffic.

We're all different though. I recently came on board with Afrihost and AfriMan was kind enough to pass on some of his super powers so I could post here. Although I'm no stranger to MyBB :)

going OT but the Twitter @afrihost account - is that somebody else or a group effort?

Also when are we going to have an Afridog on the forum - dogs are an integral part of any good family: look at the white house, Duke of Cambridge etc ... Granted a response of Woof might not be particularly helpful in a support thread but at a dog should be good to assist with security threats and preventing the cats from eating mouses.

Anyway back to actual topic: is there going to be any impact on the national backhaul and internation capacity for DSL stuff as a result of mobile - I imagine that the real constraint on DSL is at IPConnect but basically getting another channel to cover the last (and middle) mile does make me wonder where in a cycle of having over-supply to having to provision more things are.

We're the same team, we multi-task like champions :) We just use our initials on Twitter, as opposed to AfriGuy, Man & Girl.
When I started, I wanted to be AfriAwesome - but the computer said no :/

OK, the more serious stuffz now :)
There won't be any impact no, enough capacity has been provisioned both for our IPC network as well as Mobile to ensure there's enough.
