I have to say AfriMan, I love that about you guys, the fact you are prepared to do some tests, unlike some other companies we all know too well.. :)

It the only real way for everybody to win. At the end of the day, everyone needs to get what they want, and we do our very best to make that happen :)

I'd take that package :) I'll see on the weekend if the problem persists with Netflix, and will post here.

As much as we've considered this, our aim is to always give more to the client. If we guaranteed you you shaped time, we need to guarantee you unshaped time. With a lot of ISPs that offer this, there is still contention while unshaped, so speeds are never guaranteed. Also, when the network is under-utilised, we want our clients to get the benefit, rather than try to sell more unused bandwidth. We believe that with our system, especially when we have the right capacity (which we generally have had), our clients get more actual bandwidth out than with the fixed system.

Hi,

Just a question, I just about had it will Telkom and need to change to a new ISP before I lose my mind, I am a heavy steam user and MMO gamer (Wow, Wildstar, GW2 and so fourth), I have heard good things about Afrihost, will they work for what I want do use them for. My main concern is lag, I also don't do torrents.

Any help would be great, thanks

Gaming for me has been great so far. I am on business uncapped though so check with someone on normal uncapped.

You should be happy, gaming latency is great.

Gaming gets top priority on both uncapped packages if I'm not mistaken. (Business and Home.) I get around 180ms with WoW on the EU servers. You should be fine. :)

I get great latency on my personal connection. For those that still don't know, I use a regular Afrihost account (no special treatment, promise) and I have no issues gaming. Mind you, that's on a PS3 and X360. I'll let others who use more PC based games give you their experience :)

Here is something I posted on another thread that might be of interest to you :) Note that I'm on a 4mb Home Uncapped:

...

I'm currently on Afrihost, so I can give you a more accurate description of my pings. To:
  • America, ~260ms (the best I've seen out of all major ISPs, tested on WildStar servers which I believe is in California, USA)
  • EU, ~170ms (to Dota 2 servers in Luxembourg)
  • JHB, ~40ms (to Dota 2 servers which I'm assuming are in JHB, and BF4 servers in JHB)
  • CPT (where I stay), ~13ms (to CPT BF4 servers)

...

Just to add to that. Latency on Dota 2 servers are average, but very stable and no noticeable lag or spikes at all. The ping to EU might be a bit high. I may be wrong, but I recall getting ~150ms to some other EU servers. For BF4 servers, same story; awesome connection, no problems at all. And to the WildStar server, it is literally the best ping (by ~10ms) I've had out of Mweb, WebAfrica and OpenWeb. But playing WildStar with ~260ms is unavoidable at the moment. Once they get EU servers I'm sure everything should be OK.

PS. glad to see more SAfricans interested in WildStar :D

Thanks very much for the feedback everyone, seems like it is a clear choice for me, bye bye Telkom halloooo Afrihost.

@Voxratio - Very happy with what I played so far in Wildstar, can't wait for release. Also keen on Everquest Next, this year is going to be great for MMO's.

Yes. Sorry - should've clarified :p I pretty much only used it for downloading, and I seemed to be constantly "Managed". But streaming is all good :)

Wish I could say the same moved over to 10 mb but due to the throttling only getting speed equivalent after 11:00 pm until 5:30 am . So streaming slow as a snail download worse . Moved back to 4 mb definitely did not get money worth with 10 mb line. My avg usage was 100 gig a month.

Just wish this could have been sorted.
