I don't know Afriman, I just don't buy this excuse anymore. Its been months.

I promise you it's not an excuse. This is the reality of how our system works. We respond to demand, and shape accordingly. The proof is in the months that most users were completely unshaped when demand was much less for the majority of last year.

AfriMan TBH I love your company and how the shaping works (Business wise, you stop the downloaders at work for me and I don't have to LOL), but yeah I just left for axxess because I could get a better deal there streaming wise of course. Once they go up in price or you come down I will be back.

After the recent upgrades by Telkom, Afrihost has become considerably more expensive than Telkom for a 2mb uncapped bundle? R364 vs R397.

Also, Telkom are offering stealth discounts of 25% for 'two-year contracts' on data which they don't advertise in writing.

They cannot say they match, let alone beat Telkom anymore.

The difference between R364 and R397 is not considerable?

Once the upgrade of Telkom lines settle in Mid-Feb we'll be doing a full review of our Uncapped products and pricing, so I promise we've got your interests at heart here.

I'm pretty sure we'll always make it worth our client's while to stay, but let me know what you decide :)

We are aware of competitor pricing, but many of these cheaper products are throttled or blended products, where ours is semi-shaped and more comparable to premium and business pricing.

Also, we did say that we wouldn't change our pricing immediately. We feel that the market may not change as many expect with a shift in popularity between 4Mbps and 10Mbps. So we are waiting for the upgrades to settle before we revise pricing or products at this stage.

We believe that Afrihost clients will come out on top - as always :)

Hi AfriMan, so I just did the request to change to a 2mb business account. It says it's active, but I presume it will only be active from the 1st of February? My speeds haven't changed so I think it hasn't kicked in. Capped account still showing full speed.

To be fair, you could pick up a Happy Meal or a lot of chappies for that amount :)

or some dog food :p

with some seriousness though there are some serious numbers to be crunched to look at the upgrade especially for customers who have a faster line than the consumer speed they want as uncapped

When did the ClientZone confirm the change? If the change has a higher price, there's a pro rata billing system that runs on your account and the upgrade will take place at midnight tonight.

The price is exactly the same. It now says 2mb business uncapped instead of 4mb uncapped, but I'm still shaped. So I don't think it has kicked in. Is there anyway the process could be sped up? My real time services on 4mb are being shaped, eg speed test, and nothing has been done about it.

This may only be able to be completed at the end of the month, did the ClientZone not confirm a date as to when the account will switch over to Business?
Realtime services are never shaped - if you are seeing issues here then it may be an isolated incident. Could you drop me a PM with a bit more info and maybe some tests so I can check this out further for you?

Unfortunately this is not true. According to Chris from support (when I logged a call about my Netflix stuttering/being slow/unusable on the uncapped account), real-time services ARE shaped as well.

I registered on here specifically just to call "BS" on AfriGuy with that statement. Switching to my free 1gb capped account produced no slowness on Netflix whatsoever. Truly dissapointed about these lies.

Sorry if you feel you've been lied to, definitely not the intention here.
I can promise you, realtime services are not shaped - you're more than welcome to double check our AUP on that :)

With the types of Netflix, Hulu and the likes - we cannot guarantee this to be unshaped all the time. This is because of the current country restrictions imposed on the service, making it very hard for us to cover every third party work around via DNS/ proxies or other methods. We have plenty clients who use Netflix and Hulu without any issues - maybe you can ask here for tips on getting this running smoothly.

Afrihost editing their own DNS service to allow use of services like Netflix would be cool too.

But you are making provision for UnoDNS (UnoTelly), right? Since it seems to be, by far, the most popular one in SA.
