wow how about that a whole lot of happy campers. I used to be one of you happy people with no issues and amazed at Afrihost's service and suport but now. Trying sitting with an average ping of 800ms every evening for 6 months now (http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/3228977138).

I have literally spent hours upon hours on the phone with Afrihost, about this and every time they just shut me down saying its an exchange issue and Telkom must fix it, so I then sit there wondering if anyone is actually asking telkom about this, but then I do some trolling and find that some people actually get this issue resolved and their solution is to phone and phone well 5 months now and I'm sick of it. So instead of boasting how happy I am with Afrihost like I did and got friends to change, I am going to bad mouth, ridicule and drag Afrihost's name through the dirt as they do with my time and patience. I really really hope it all comes crashing down for all of you.

Wow -_- Slightly harsh - but then again, I understand your frustration. Would you please run http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/576445-quot-Help-me-fix-my-internet-quot-report-tool and post your results here :)

Wow, no need to be a dick. If a Telkom ticket has been created there's nothing you can do but wait.

if it is exchange related - confirm with other ISP accounts - and your line is with Telkom then Afrihost are delivering you exactly the service you are signed up for a best effort ADSL service as an be provisioned by the infrastructure to your premises. Take the matter up with Telkom other than quite continuously fighting with Telkom to speed up their infrastructure improvement plans what can Afrihost or any ISP do?

@ Zertop - I obliged the results are pasted below

@ Vicv - after all that you see me as being a dick, the only thing Afrihost says is its Telkoms fault which is not my issue, my issue is that that's all they say, they don't give me any indication that they are doing anything at all, including making tickets. They just say Its telkom's responsibility to manage the exchange then they close my ticket and stop all form of communication until I open another ticket and then have to go thought the same crap.

@ Paul Hjul - My line is managed by Afrihost because they boasted that if I do that then I don't ever have to deal with Telkom. The irony. . . again I understand that there is an issue, the fact I am so mad is that Afrihost just leaves me in the dark.

but on that note how do other people have perfectly good internet at the very same time I have a ping of 600 - 800 ms is ludicrous. Do any of you reading this have internet in Bergvliet?

On business line the steam updates are great for me. 1gb download in an hour. 2mb line. Also if you nees fast support from telkom I have found in the past that tweeting them is best method. Response time is less than an hour. And my issues get solved that same day.

I really really hope it all comes crashing down for all of you.

I'm really sorry that this has gone downhill to this extent. While I do understand your frustration, I do hope that you see that trying to destroy Afrihost through negative sentiment is not the best way forward, and we are definitely not trying to achieve anything like this toward you.

Telkom exchanges belong to Telkom. We only manage a client's line to the exchange. Once a fault is present on an exchange, or there is congestion, it falls beyond the scope of our agreement with them. The exchange houses multiple lines of clients with Telkom, ourselves and other ISP's, so it makes sense that the exchange is managed directly by Telkom, who ultimately own the hardware exclusively.

We really do try to do everything possible for our clients, even at our costs, if we can. However, when it comes to exchanges, there are situations where our hands are tied and we cannot assist further. We can only be as transparent as possible in these cases :(

Remember that shaping is demand driven. We saw an upsurge in demand last night, probably becuase most US TV shows came back from break this week, and probably a lot of people catching up on their series, etc.

Shaping at 1-2am? Doesn't make sense,

We definitely would like to shape less and offer more unshaped time. At present we have to manage demand as best we can with the resources we have. Once Telkom deliver our additional ordered capacity, and things should be a lot different. We have catered for a lot more capacity in this round of upgrades, so we're expecting this will make a huge difference in the client/user experience on Uncapped :)

I don't know if you've run any comparitive tests. This would seem to be exchange congestion right off the bat :(

There is no shaping on Capped accounts. You could only ever be affected by contention if demand was extremely high. But again, once we get the additional capacity we've planned for, we should see a very different experience.
