And OH Afriguy, just showing some of the more heavier users a way to get their legal content the first time. Most of the time when Nzb's are used you get downloads with missing blocks, this is where a 10GB download eventually becomes a 40GB download. With my method 10GB stays 10GB, thus saving Afrihost 30GB per user in this example which translates to less shaping, less complaints. :)

I'm all in favour of efficient bandwidth usage. After all, I'll need it all for the new Game of Thrones season in April (so let's start preparing for this) :)

I have a problem now, I can't stream on Twitch. Even "Mobile" is buffering. WTF

We get a few queries about Twitch in the past. It seems to be related to when you join the broadcast, according to some of the forums :(

Mweb and Afrihost are way ahead of all the other ISPs. I've been on Mweb before and their service is top notch (only issue is the throttling). I'm now on Aftihost and the service is just as good, if not better (and there is no throttling!).

Thanks for the compliment. The competition is always the competition, but it's always good to know we're leading the race in good company :)

AfriTeam,

Any known issues today on Uncapped? My 4mb Business account is downloading at 180kBps. :(

No issues as such, but demand was pretty high last night, we were only able to start unshaping light users close to midnight :(

I don't think you understand, you can't shape your clients to a stand still ALL day, what is the point of an uncapped account, please let me know?

Anyways, PM sent.

It's definitely not our intention to shape clients all day indefinitely. We have to work with the resources we have for the moment, until our additional capacity arrives.

We had done capacity planning for 2014, and our estimates were that we would not need additional capacity. However, when usage spiked late last year, we realised that we'd need to change our plans and also possibly over-compensate. We ordered significantly more capacity from Telkom but only part was able to be delivered before the end of the year. We're confident that the balance will arrive soon :)

Just did a interesting test, my shaped 10mbps Axxess Account vs a Unshaped Afrihost account. No difference in streaming. Both buffers on some sites, especially those sites with links like sockshare and putlocker, which is expected since they are free streaming services and over congested. But hey still a R375 10mbps account vs a R395 4mbps account both shaped to the bone eventually, 6mbps gain on streaming and R20 saving will always win me over, especially if both are owned by the same company on the same backbone. :D

It depends on the resources required, which for most streaming is not that much, except for occasional spikes. Also, our unshaped account should outperform the shaped one for downloads, even though it's a 4Mbps vs 10Mbps, when there is maximum shaping employed.

But I'm a big fan of what works ;)

Afriman I give up. Being shaped constantly is not the service I want.

Please can you move me to the 4meg/75gig capped account?

You can make the change in ClientZone, or drop me a PM so I can help you out :)

Me too please.

OK since someone mentioned game of thrones here and need to get ready for it :p I think I am allowed to share it here. Really no big deal, I just use cloudload.com for my personal download here and there, but mostly to stream series. Not gonna expand to much on how it works, they got a nice introductory video on their site though. :)

Afri*, I'm wondering if pulling git repo's are considered downloads, and would be shaped?

Clientzone doesn't give the option for a capped bundle. Will send a PM, thanks.

You can only do this in the Old ClientZone at the moment. You'll need to Unbundle, change your data package and the re-bundle :)

In my experience, if it downloads it gets shaped. However there are some SA mirrors where I once downloaded Ubuntu at 500KB/s where everything else was 30KB/s

If it's legal, it's cool :)
