I've ordered my ADSL line through Afrihost last Thusday (22/8). How long does it take for the ADSL line to be activated and usable?

When I ordered my line directly through Telskommel, it took them 3 working days to arrive and install the line. I imagine your wait will be the same, depends on where you are and how busy they are.

It looks like my area just has issues with Afrihost accounts. I have tried testing with capped, uncapped and also just received a business uncapped account to trial and all of them fail miserably in my tests.

I am in touch with support though and offered to provide feedback to try and resolve the issues. I think there may be some truth in the word that Cape Town just doesn't have enough capacity, at least not to sustain respectable throughput for a 20Mbit line.

However maybe we still get this issue sorted. Will keep you guys updated. Support has been very good up to this point.

AfriPeople, why is Twitch.tv so laggy? It stutters like mad on my 10Mb account. I can watch youtube etc. at full line speed. I remember somebody complained about twitch on Afrihost a while back too.

Depends on the Telkom peeps in your area. Some are pretty fast, but others can take up to 30 days. Telkom are generally getting faster though as they've implemented some automated systems :)

Since last Saturday it's been the worst I've ever had... Up until about 2 hours ago I've couldn't stay connected for more than 2 hours at a time. Within every two hours, the ADSL would just disappear. Now it seems to be within every hour. Had two disconnects within the last hour

Sorry to hear about this. We'll need to check your logs and line and see if there is any correspondence in terms of disconnections. Trace routes will also show if there is no connection, or just a slow connection and high latency.

Please drop me a PM :(

You guys need to jack up your hosting support / domain support. I've been trying to get a very simple question answered for over two weeks now and each time they just dont answer it or give me some very nondescript response. It's almost like they do not understand my question. Are you able to assist?

Order Placed 20-08-2013 15:20:37
Parcel Packed 26-08-2013 12:57:34

Your Mifi / 5GB package I ordered.

Although this has got nothing to do with ADSL itself, but I am deeply disappointed with you Afrihost for the first time. I know of 5 people who got their packages from the courier 2, 3 even 4 days ago, 5 people who never were Afrihost clients before. So why must I as a R1000 a month ADSL subscriber wait so long? Your callcentre people told me my device has been ready for quite some time and if I am in a real hurry I can come fetch it at your office myself. If it has been ready for so long WHY DON'T YOU COURIER IT like all the other 7999 devices?

It's not Afrihost, it's the courier they used MDS. They are a bunch of clowns.

Yeah it's frustrating dealing with MDS. They were complaining that they had 800 packages to deliver in Durban. wtf, that's their job.

To be really fair to them, we've really hit them with a major curveball by going early, like a week before planned. So their planning went out the window and they had to quickly compensate. That said, they've delivered 98% of their daily target accurately, so that's not bad at all.

We know there are still mistakes being made, and some disappointed people - but let's give a little credit (and understanding) where it's due :(

I'm pretty sure I can answer that for you. Depends on the question though, I was never as good at Trivia as our Twitter/FB people :)

PM me, let's get these questions answered!!!

Our promised date was the 6th of September, so PreOrders were not packed in any particular order as they were intended to be despatched in full. However, when we decided to go early, that meant that some parcels may have been signed up earlier than those which we were despatching had to wait for the next major batch to be collected for distribution and delivery.

What I can say is that the final load of the launch day MiFi's and most of the subsequent preorders has been collected so EVERYTHING is now out on delivery, barring any orders that have been paused for admin issues like verification or payment issues. Everyone will get their stuff by the promised 6 Sept deadline.

Any known issues going around?

Local and international speedtests both are around 130KB/s

On 2mb line.

I'm in Durbanville.

Tracerts look good to local and international sites. No spikes on any hops.
