Anybody struggling with Afrihost atm?
My site is down and tried to open a ticket for support and only getting a spinning circle.

We do not have trial accounts. We have a FREE GB, which you can sign up for but it uses your current line speed.

I am currently testing the network on my 10mb line with the free 1gb account, which I assume is unshaped. Performance is amazing; everything is full speed.

Can I assume that the business uncapped performance would be exactly the same as the 1gb account, seeing as they are both unshaped? If so, I will definitely be signing up for at least one business account

Yeah, the Capped accounts and Business Uncapped packages are both unshaped 24/7 - so the experience you're seeing now with the 1GB Free account is what you'll get on a Business Uncapped package

Seems AH is back to it's shabby state from a few months back. It's actually been okay for the last few months in CPT since the previous more than year IPC debacle, but I see we're suddenly being throttled overly restrictively again *sigh* - 50% download/p2p after only 40GB this month on 4mbps uncapped. And, trust me, it affects "real time" speeds as well.

Turbocharged my line and it's still horrid. I am downloading updates + streaming netflix so a lot is going on but watching my router and the throughput never breaks 2mbps on a 4mb uncapped account syncing @ 5mb.

Switched to prepaid Plugg account and peaking at 4.1mbps - disappointing AH.

Sorry to hear about this I can promise you, we'll never ever throttle you, only shape where absolutely necessary. Also, realtime services don't go anywhere near shaping.

What quality are you streaming Netflix and downloading? Maybe stop the download and see if things improve?

Streaming Netflix in SD, don't have time to play swap the account so am gonna use my plugg account for tonight so I can get work done while watching Nflix

Anyone here on a 2meg account? What are you pulling per month on average? And is the network unshaped after hours and weekends?

AfriGuy, I surprised your pricing is out when it comes to 2meg packages and up. Been with Openweb for as long as I can remember, but now think I need a change. Afri slightly expensive though.

Firstly, "shaping" or "throttling", whatever - it's really just marketing semantics with the same effective result.

Secondly, you had a long period where you were shaping/throttling, or whatever you called it, all Cape IPC users to less than 50% every evening with some long story about different usage profiles in different areas. And then it just suddenly stopped for a few months and everything was reasonable. Now we seem to be back to the regular evening slow downs. I find it very frustrating that either you have no clue what is going on, or you do, but always make out that is something unique to the user. 40GB in half a month on a 4mbps uncapped account is not unreasonable, so why am I shaped/throttled/capped, whatever?

Thirdly, you claim that the shaping is only on downloads and P2P. It isn't, or you have capacity issues again - certainly yesterday evening everything was running at max half rate.
