Shaping Policy: No Shaping Applied

My line is no longer being shaped.

:)

Can confirm. Shaping off on my side as well. Speeds looking much better. Latency is horrible at the mo. But I can live with that, no realtime services running. That shaper is going to be the death of me. But since it saved our collective asses when bandwith is under strain I'll live with it.

However guys it would be great if we could get some form of alert when this is needed. Don't think anybodys has a problem with being shaped as long as we know it's a general thing. I think the shock was as well seeing how much shaping was applied. Because it's been ages since we've seen this.

All in all I still think Afrihost is the place to be. Sure you guys won't drop the ball and we'll get the hiccups sorted.

Lol based on the jinx graph, it looks like usage spiked on Monday when gta5 was released, then spiked a bit higher today when ios7 was released.... Coincidence? :p

Probably not, but then you've got to wonder why the ISPs don't cache these things better, or at least have Akamai nodes, since AFAIK both steam and Apple use Akamai as their CDN. In theory, if this was working efficiently then jinx wouldn't see much of a blip at all.

Caching would not help at all, one has to remember that when a ISP is shaping is it normally because they are running out of Telkom IPC capacity, not international bandwidth...caching would not help because you will be caching upstream of the IPC, everything still needs to move through IPC first.

Yup. Was great for all of an hour. Back to beyond terrible. Shaped again and latency to google is over 300ms.

Morning all

Some updates on the latency and overall throughput issues being experienced currently:
We're still seeing high demand on our IPC links, this is suspected to be linked to OS, apps and game updates over the last few days. Our Engineers are working on every possible angle to manage the higher than expected demand on our network to ensure that it's smooth sailing.

Further updates to follow, we're constantly monitoring the network.

So in a nut shell you have run out of IPC capacity

We're really sorry about the slow down, this isn't normal as our network is seeing an increase in load overall. Please see my post around the latest update http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthr...back-(Pt2)?p=11193472&viewfull=1#post11193472

The demand today is almost at the same level as it was yesterday. Which is still 54% higher than the daily average over the last month.
