Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback (Pt2)

It's sad to have to repeat myself, but it's day #6, and same story. After 17:00, internet goes to !@#$.

http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/2850810501

I was wanting to jam some BF3, but not possible with this !@#$

Internet is crawling down to unresponsiveness. Took me minutes just to open MyBB and this thread. Conducted a local speedtest: ping 533 ms, down 0.54 Mbps, up 0.11 Mbps. Makes me wonder why I pay for a 4 MB uncapped account. Also makes me wonder who messed up, Telkom or AH?

Hey guys

Wanted to know what are the general feelings about the network?

I am needing a new ISP over telkom...

Would like to know if I should go with home 10meg/4meg or business 4meg?

I do pull alot of data in a month and love gaming and the 'downloads' as well as browsing properly.

Hope to hear back soon :)

This has been going on for 2 weeks now. Telkom says Exchange is congested. I'm at a loss as to what to do currently. Either cancel my internet and try something else, or keep paying for 4Mb that's pretty much useless during waking hours.

For some unknown reason, Internet has been somewhat decent for the last week or so. Keep it up!

Hi Guys

Sorry I've been away for a few days an may have missed a few issues being posted here. I'm sure that Afriguy and AfriGirl have been doing a stellar job of keeping you informed and helping out with any queries.

I'm going through my mailbox to make sure I am up to date with the all your recent queries, but please also drop me a PM if I've missed anything.

Seems like my stats also incorrect. 20 July - 97.70Gb download and 11.22Gb upload
21 July - 348.79Gb Download and 43.94Gb upload

Aint no way so much could of been downloaded or uploaded even if I maxed out.

Same here - 20 July (Saturday), almost 1gb used. No-one was physically in the place of residence, with no devices present, from Friday afternoon until Sunday afternoon so there's definitely a mess-up somewhere.

Congested exchanges are really tricky. Truly feeling your pain here. Telkom have the final say on whether an exchange gets upgraded or not. These tend to be backhaul issues, so require additional cable or fibre installation to improve the bandwidth. This gets handled by a seperate budgeting/works department and the technical people and wholesale teams have no say really. The best we can do is aggregate complaints to try to pressure them into addressing the upgrades sooner rather than later.

We had an error over the weekend or so with our data packet accounting. I'm told we have identified what went wrong and resolved this. Your data cap should be looking normal again, but if not please drop me a PM

This is the Durbanville Exchange you recently mentioned has been "upgraded" 3-4 times already. The last upgrade should have been May 2013 (if I remember correctly), but has now been pushed back to October 2013. What I don't understand is that it seems I have nothing to stand on with regards to the exchange issue. I pay exactly the same every month (actually a bit more, because of the Telkom price increases), but my service is now less than 33% of what it used to be.

I don't have the exact dates of when the Durbanville upgrades were done, but from our side we tried to log as many congestion faults as we could, and I think other ISPs did the same. This seemed to push Telkom to fast track the upgrade, I'm sure direct TI clients also voiced their unhappiness.

It could be that Telkom are now planning a bigger upgrade, rather than a bubblegum wrapper/sellotape solution. There is clearly a problem of poor infrastructure planning going on there :(

Congestion varies according to the people in the area. For some areas its the inverse, during the day it awful, at night it's perfect. Probably becuase there are businesses in the area that shut down at 5pm or so. Telkom have detailed reports (which I'd love to have access to) where they track usage over time periods to determine congestion and whether they will upgrade or not.

Is something wrong somewhere cause I've disconnected three times in the last 30 minutes  SNR is at 12db

Can you provide a speedtest displaying your issue compared with another backup ISP account?

EDIT: Use MyBB Speedtest to keep things simple?

Thanks,

And with an alternate? Just to eliminate Telkom?
