Folks, let not kid ourselves any longer....the current shaping will apply until 01 October, only then will be lifted, until around the middle of October or say maybe the 20th when it will be applied again...for the whole week we have been hearing that the traffic is calming down and that we should be seeing improvements. Well not on my side, permanently shaped on p2p @ 6.25% on AH:cry: at least real time services work fine, which I suppose is better than other isp`s

Shaping definitely shouldn't be applied for this amount of time.
Our IPC links are seeing normalised traffic flow but we're still carefully monitoring how things go.

Running an update on my Debian wheezy packages and they are flying at 7,117 bytes a second, the first time I dialed up to the internet in 1993 I could download files at twice this speed:(

18.8% Download/ 6.25% P2P

So the official statement is that this is caused by iOS updates? So this will be the case in future every time Apple releases an update?

I was speaking of ONLY the data upgrade cost.

When your line gets boosted for free a R100 more will bump the data.

Currently the combo does cost R200 to boost from 2mb to 4mb yea.

Correct. Data only is a R100 different, and for bundles it's R200 more. If you think about that though, You're moving from R279 line rental to a R399 line rental, so you're really saving a lot on the 4Mbps bundle :)

I don't know if we can say that it's the only factors. But were pretty sure that they have contributed to the excessive demand we're seeing on the network. Until that demand subsides, we're going to have to continue shaping.

Having said that, as I've mentioned before, shaping disappeared pretty much after 12 pm. The network ran unshaped until around 7am, when the demand rapidly increased. Measuring against our trends, there is definitely an increase in demand.

While we're shaping, downloads are going to be slow. Best to run these overnight for now when there is little or no shaping :(

Afriman.

Please oh please could you log a fault with telkom or do what you guys do make them aware of exchange congestion in Pinehurst Durbanville area between 17:30 and 22:00...

It is all nice and dandy that my line can fly at 440kB/s when everyon is asleep...but when I actually want to stream and watch in 720p my line runs at 150kB/s...like now...not cool. Eiya.

Just an update. Usage has dropped off dramatically and we're already easing up on shaping. Many clients should now be shaped less aggressively or not at all.

Let's hope that the demand issues are over and we can go back to normal performance. Thanks everyone for bearing with us. We should start seeing normal performance on throughput and latency tonight.

We don't actually have a fault process for exchanges. To telkom, that falls outside of the line management area, we usually get a standard answer of 6 weeks to 12 months before they might address the issue.

I can try. Drop me a PM :(

That would not be due to shaping. Pings and latency from our tests are running as normal. can you PM me or post a traceroute so I can take a look?
