Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback (Pt2)

ok, turboboost or whatever it is took me back to line speed. ito it was the shaping. this is not fun :(

You get 5 Free Turbocharge sessions per month, so you can always bypass shaping for an hour when you really need. And you can buy more for R29 if you need to :)

Can I just say that I love TurboCharge. It's awesome knowing you can unshape yourself for an hour if you really need full line speed. I tested it last night on a download and it worked brilliantly.

It's a very novel concept and I'm lovin' it. :D

I used my first one today as well. Works instantly and very handy.

So, basically, nothing has changed. Despite what is said by Afrihost representatives, it appears the draconian blanket shaping is still in effect, irrespective of line speed and / or bandwidth used.

Shaping is apparently lifted from midnight - 7:00 a.m.

This all sounds very familiar... does anybody remember IS' "uncapped express+" service? With intolerable speeds in the day and full line speed after hours? Bar a few modifications, this is what is being sold to us.

And all these people upgrading to business uncapped? It boggles my mind... you pay for a service, don't get what you're promised, and you elect to pay more to the same people who couldn't deliver on their initial fiduciary?

FNB offer a great uncapped service for a fraction of the price of Afrihost's (considering rewards) where you can get a lovely uncapped line that is useless for anything except browsing and YouTube. As it currently stands, almost all home uncapped users are having a redundant experience.

The reason I take issue with this is that 1 year ago, when Afrihost switch to the MTN backbone, this exact problem happened. Everyone was shaped into the ground, Afrihost reps had exactly the same responses that they do now. I cancelled with Afrihost, moved to MWEB, had a fantastic experience but thought I could save myself R200 per month and moved back to Afrihost last month. What a mistake. R200 saved = not worth it.

I'll give Afrihost the benefit of the doubt until the end of this month, failing that I'll gladly take my "double money back guarantee" of R3188 (797 x 2 x 2) and use that for my next ISP and I encourage everyone to do the same.

Awesome, glad it's working well for you.

Oh, come on okes. Whole day on 50/25 thinking perhaps this time you're starting to make at least some progress and now, when traffic flow should be winding down for the day, it's back to 18.8/6.25. :(

Would it be overly cynical of me to think that it's a ****ing disgrace to offer people with less than 60 days' history with you double their money back whilst royally reaming the people who chose to stick it out with the MTN switch?

I think this is a slightly harsh indictment of us. As other's have mentioned, other ISP's are showing similar signs of high usage and unexplained upsurge in demand for bandwidth. However, we are not throttling or shaping realtime services. We trying to deliver the best possible experience to all our clients, not just the ones who pay the most. As far as we are concerned, every client should get the very best we can give them, and we're not holding back any spare capacity for commercial reasons.

However, we also don't want to have any clients feeling like they made a mistake by moving to us or feeling hard done, that's why we don't ask for contracts or complex cancellations, and we offer the Double Money Back Guarantee. We honestly and sincerely feel that if we have genuinely failed you, we'll stand by that guarantee so that even in parting we can try to deliver an awesome experience.

I'm hopeful that we can still solve this issue, and I do see some gradual improvement in shaping for the very lowest users which is positive. We are also continuing to look for short and long term solutions, and I promise that I will give the best time frames I can as soon as I receive information from our team and management.

I'm really sorry you feel this way. I think we've been upfront about what we're seeing on the network and we've given over all the information we have. I don't think we've been unfair in how we've conducted ourselves, but PM me if you disagree and let's find the best solution.

Are you guys working with other ISPs if they're experiencing similar signs of high usage?

It wouldn't really make sense to do so, because we each have independent IPC capacity. I couldn't comment on the severity of what they are experiencing, I'm basing this mainly on comments from users in the forum.

Drop me a PM anyway. Let me have a look at your shaping history, cos I did see things start to relax quite early last night :(

Would be cool if this was a feature in ClientZone. I've been shaped 18.8% Download/ 6.25% P2P for 24+ hours from what I can see.
