So, basically, nothing has changed. Despite what is said by Afrihost representatives, it appears the draconian blanket shaping is still in effect, irrespective of line speed and / or bandwidth used.
Shaping is apparently lifted from midnight - 7:00 a.m.
This all sounds very familiar... does anybody remember IS' "uncapped express+" service? With intolerable speeds in the day and full line speed after hours? Bar a few modifications, this is what is being sold to us.
And all these people upgrading to business uncapped? It boggles my mind... you pay for a service, don't get what you're promised, and you elect to pay more to the same people who couldn't deliver on their initial fiduciary?
FNB offer a great uncapped service for a fraction of the price of Afrihost's (considering rewards) where you can get a lovely uncapped line that is useless for anything except browsing and YouTube. As it currently stands, almost all home uncapped users are having a redundant experience.
The reason I take issue with this is that 1 year ago, when Afrihost switch to the MTN backbone, this exact problem happened. Everyone was shaped into the ground, Afrihost reps had exactly the same responses that they do now. I cancelled with Afrihost, moved to MWEB, had a fantastic experience but thought I could save myself R200 per month and moved back to Afrihost last month. What a mistake. R200 saved = not worth it.
I'll give Afrihost the benefit of the doubt until the end of this month, failing that I'll gladly take my "double money back guarantee" of R3188 (797 x 2 x 2) and use that for my next ISP and I encourage everyone to do the same.
