Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback (Pt2)

No shaping applied at the moment but I'm really battling to use twitch on low quality even (4mb normal account), international browsing also feels pretty slow. Tested on telkom account and twitch and browsing is perfect so it's the afrihost account.

Ouch

Shaping Policy : 50% Download/ 25% P2P

Of course, i know why , so i'm not entirely surprised, now to see how long it lasts as my usage return to normal.

This ^ would be awesome!

Edit : even if it was inside the clientzone, for uncapped clients only. Wouldn't wanna scare off new clients who go to the site and see the network is taking strain :wtf:

hmm inside the client zone would be nice! but if afrihost really wanted to be transparent, They would put it on their site for the world to see ;)

Well, something has gone seriously wrong...

Latency is through the roof and speeds are generally poor. Afrihost and Telkom account tested, both with poor results.

I've done it for both accounts...

Getting hops in excess of 2500 ms on both accounts when I usually don't exceed 20 ms.

Afrihost 4 Mbps Business Account btw.

I'd call up telkom then and ask them what's up... theres probably a problem in your area...

Either you're downloading, or you've got serious congestion.

I wasn't downloading anything... Called up Telkom about the fault and they recreated my ports which has resulted in me being without internet now as the router does not establish a connection.

A technician will have to sort it out.

Judging from that 1500ms on his 2nd hop I believe his exchange is on fire :)

It's a line issue. I've never experienced any issues with my exchange and speeds are in excess of 3.2 Mbps pretty much all day on my Afrihost account.

I had this happen to me once.
The idiot call centre person did a port recreate instead of a port reset and didn't go through the full steps involved for a port recreate, thus leaving me with no internet but i got hold of their manager and he identified the problem and fixed it.

Thanks for this. Will call them up again and see what happens.

Sorry to see this, I see you've also PMed me. Assuming it's about this same issue, so will reply to your PM ASAP :(
Thanks Afriman. Now Eskom has again decided to shape me - second time today and again in the middle of a download - at least when AH shape it is not 100% like Eskom:D Will wait for your pm.

On a lighter note , I would like to say thank you AH , my experience since I started has been great.

I'm seeing the occassional buffering - not quite slit your wrists though. Otherwise seems perfect :(

Electricity throttling. At least if they just shaped your geyser to 25% you could still have a cup of tea :)
