I'm really sorry that you are having a terrible experience. I do remember the MTN move, and yes there was a lot of trust lost through some of the issues we faced, but I believe that our accountability and honesty carried us through and we rewarded our clients to thank them for having faith in us. I think it's something that every ISP probably faces at some time, and it's how we hbdle ourselves in the situations that sets the ISP apart, not the issues themselves.

I know we've had more than our fair share of challenges of late, but I have faith in our team and our management that we'll come out of this in our client's favour.

Honestly, after +-4 weeks of this these are empty promises.

So, you're a) oversubscribed, or b) allowing a handful to decimate your available capacity by bypassing shaping. Which is it?

I think we keep having the same conversation over and over here. As we've said, we don't just add subscribers until we run out of capacity. That would be a pretty stupid business model. We track the usage and additional signups carefully. We could not have foreseen the sudden increase in demand from the northern region. The fact that it was repeated in other regions, but to a lesser degree shows that there was a change in usage trends that no-one foresaw. :(

They have simply run out of capacity on the IPC. I said this from day one! You only shape when you ain't got enough bandwidth to go around. They shaping vigorously...so....They only solution is to bring more IPC capacity online, which can take months if my understanding is correct.

So I joined AH on the 20th of Aug. I have about 5 days left for the double your money back.

I have a bundle, do I cancel the whole bundle or can I just unbundle and cancel the data portion only and then I will be refunded on the data only?
How does it work?

Thanks for telling us what is wrong. But how is it going to be fixed?? Should everyone who is now unhappy just unsubscribe and make space for the new subscribers?

Why is it people cannot understand events that happen, everyone seems to act as if any ISP just has one huge pool of bandwidth that they can take from at will. Nothing about how the IPC's bandwidth assignment may affect them for example.

Should a business really purchase say 25% extra capacity that never gets used just in case they get a subscriber influx ? How do you think Afrihost paying more than they need to would affect subscribers after all they cant run at a loss.

To all you people who are moaning about how much you hate afrihost why not just get off the network so you can complain somewhere else and free it up for the rest of us.

Ok, so now you know about it. What are you doing to rectify it???

Any new customers who have been with AH for less than 60 days should take their double money back guarantee and move on.

+1. Couldn't agree more.

I know I can't wait for my R3188 come the end of the month. That will do nicely to finance my uncapped with another ISP for the next 6 months.

Furthermore, there's so much evidence in this thread from the PR posts of AfriMan, AfriGuy and AfriGirl clearly stating the network isn't performing up to scratch for the past 4 weeks that it would be impossible to refuse me the refund.

1) Wait for this mysterious high demand to subside, which I doubt is going to happen given that it has been 4 weeks
2) Purchase and bring more IPC capacity online.
3) Shape the hell out of everyone

Unfortunately I don't see Afrihost's shaping will be getting better until the December holidays. Additional IPCs will take months to sort out, and I don't see anything happening until next year. Hopefully 2014 will be a good year!

I think the only thing holding me back from going somewhere else is where do you go? Where can you go that doesn't have terrible AUP

It's been going on for four weeks now, we've been patient long enough.

Browsing is completely stuffed now, but don't worry YouTube is streaming at full speed so users are getting the best experience possible.

This issue seems to be affecting more than just MTN ADSL users, we have two clients running via dedicated links to MTNNS and they are also having issues

Well, no. We're not having the same conversation over and over, seeing that you spent the first, oh I dunno, 2-and-a-bit weeks protesting against any suggestion that there might not be enough capacity to go around.

Give me clear, honest and timely information and I'll stop harping on the same issues, like your reluctance to acknowledge that the way your dynamic shaping works utterly breaks down when you are at or near capacity. It is not OK that some people can sit watching **** on Youtube at 1080p, but others can't get the smallest of urgent downloads done. What's so difficult to understand about that?

No such thing as a Non-Evil AUP in my opinion but you may want to try who is closest to the main networks as possible, off the top of my head that would be MWeb (Who has a vicious policy) or Plugg (Internet Solution's). The rest seem to use the others networks to the best of their ability compared to people having their own.

Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong though anyone.

So in essences we as customers should give them how long exactly to fix this. I don't know all the technical thing that goes into running an ISP and I don't want to know. All I know is I as the customer pay for a service and EXPECT that service. Its the ISP's problem how they supply that service. All uncapped customers gave them A month worth of payments and got nothing in return. Is this a charity or what.

Yea, MWEB's policy takes them out of the question. We really don't have many options do we.

Youre paying for uncapped and the ability to be shaped. I do agree that afrihost should give us a timeframe as to when they think the problem will be sorted. I am having no problems actually (in regards to shaping) but i think more IPC is definitely needed in the northern region then.
