Yes, that's correct, Business and Uncapped are limited to the package speed, regardless of line sync. Otherwise Business performs and is pooled as a Capped account. The other difference is that it's locked to a single line where Capped can manage concurrent connections (up to 10)

Didn't even know this, makes it even better.
Thanks

The leadership board was and is a stupid idea. Firstly you attract the abusive crowd and next drive up unnecessary usage because the message gets interpreted that everybody should try and maximise their facility. Now 90% of your users are getting screwed by 10% of users... Well done AH... The genie is out of the bottle...

+1

Hey, we only setup the rules. You guys control the shaping through usage #JustSaying ;)

Yay for passing the buck, even in jest. No, we don't... you run the network, you control whether you allow usage to necessitate - and I use the word loosely - such levels of shaping.

It is possible that it could be realtime usage. Unless we have conclusive proof that devious means were used, we can't really do much. We don't have an excessive use policy to enforce :(

Simple, look at the daily graph, if the usage is high throughout the day it is def not realtime unless the person stays awake 24/7

We introduced the leaderboard ages ago, and those users were already there, so I don't think we've opened a pandora's box here. But it does make this kind of usage transparent, and i promise you that all ISPs have a leaderboard, whether they make it public or not.

At the end of the day, 10% of your client base is still very significant, and we need to to find a way to accommodate all our clients needs.

It could be a corporate account, or an account that is shared in a household, or is maybe used in a business or office.

We've considered all these options, and we have monitoring in place, but it really is not as simple as that :(

well when you do catch a bastard doping make sure any titles on a leaderboard are scrapped and feed the SOB to the heavy users for cheating ...

the let your dog lift his leg ...

Usage necessitates shaping. But how can we allow or disallow usage? Are you saying we should throttle clients, and then also shape them later? I think that would be pretty awful :(

Haha, the infamous AfriDog ;)

Once we suspended a user, his account is inactive so he should drop off the Leader Board completely :)

No, I'm simply lamenting that "You guys control the shaping through usage #JustSaying" doesn't actually mean anything significant, and frankly just sounds smarmy. Each individual user has no significant power to influence the state of your network.

Please PM me as soon as you notice a slow down on your end - you shouldn't be experiencing this :( Please include a traceroute too - it'll help us identify where the slow speeds/ increased latency is being introduced.

Well today I am all good again from about 10 on the morning. For whatever happened I am gratefull!

I've never really understood that leaderboard shenanigans to be honest and as you said it really just attracts the wrong crowd. Great for marketing but very bad for business.

I also don't understand how those abusers use so much data in any event. I'm on an unshaped package and average about 4Gb per day.

The #1 position on a 4mb Business account is for 1,170.53 GB. That translates to 'round 440kB/s 24/7, every day, the entire month. It's absurd.

But it was definitely done on a faster line - ie at least 5mb. But yeah. No idea how you can get anything else done on that account while pushing it fullsteam.

Absurd is an understatement.

I average about 4Gb per day on my 4Mbps package and that includes Netflix, Hulu and iTunes downloads for the most part. I download the odd torrent as well but I usually schedule those for between 1am and 6 am.

I actually feel like I'm using my account. I wonder how these abusers feel?

It was intended as a joke, but it is actually the truth. We can't influence the demand at any given time without throttling users. Demand controls shaping. So collectively clients control shaping more than we do, and we'd honestly prefer to keep it that way, becuase also means we're always giving clients that maximum benefit of the capacity we have.

I know it was intended as such, but it's a false reflection of reality. Your customer base isn't some collective consciousness you can hold universally responsible for the state of your network at any given time. It is your responsibility to manage the network in such a fashion that each individual maintains a usable connection regardless of what the collective might be doing.
