Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback (Pt2)

We ran some tests with a client recently on a few ISP accounts, just to check if there is any difference. All buffered during the main even, so I'm pretty sure this is SuperSport issue :(

Not only SS. All other streaming was useless on Saturday afternoon(Even with my capped account).
But I streamed F1 just fine yesterday on uncapped and torrents were fine last night from 7 onwards.

So the interwebs was broken somewhere and not related to AH. Sorry for my rant earlier in this thread.

Not so fast to blame us. I had an uncapped account (6Mbs) but because of throttling went back to a 50Gb capped account - mainly for video/TV streaming. At certain times it works great but at others - mainly after about 2.00pm it just doesn't work - even YouTube buffers at 360p and I have to assume that AH are throttling (despite their assurances) in order to redistribute bandwidth capacity so that things don't completely collapse. I use an un-congested exchange but it only offers up to 6Mbs. I have previously had great service from AH so am prepared to wait it out and hope that the promised improvements come soon.

I would suspect that time based degradation is more likely to be exchange based. The network was running perfectly and we saw no usage spikes causing latency or throughput dips on our monitoring.

How did you determine that your exchange is not congested?

No worries - ranting is all part of MyBB experience :)

Can't agree more, have the same issue here the shaping is rather high. I was shaped during the weeek to 7.5 for download and P2P and yesterday and today 50 / 75.

Netflix buffers quite a bit and iplayer is unwatchable.

Hopefully something will happen soon or I need to have a look around for smething else. Would be a shame as AH is my first choice seeing the brilliant support they have, but what good is the best support when the product is the problem?

We're really hopeful that we'll be able to put in long term solutions for the shaping we're having to implement due to increased demand. As soon as I have more information - I'll post it up here :)

So AfriMan, I'm sure you've seen the latest announcement from Axxess regarding upgrade prices. This really does beg the question of how Afrihost will answer.

So I decided to try out Afrihost 4MB Uncapped. Since friday line has been fast p2p was downloading at +350kb/s
This morning speed at 10kb.

Im based in pretoria.

I honestly don't want cheaper prices...

I'd rather they take whatever wholesale savings can be gleaned from IPC cuts and pump it into the infrastructure. Prices are great right now.

Glad to see I'm not the only one who had this problem. Couldn't steam, couldn't download and then I had a 125ping locally and a 500+ ping internationally. On a Sunday night. At 10pm.

Telkom say everything is fine, Afrihost say its the line/exchange/router/cycle of the moon. Round and round we go. Where do we stop? Only shaping knows.

* I also saw someone posting about using your turbocharge minutes when it says you are not shaped, but you are. I know that feel bro. *

Real time speed

I can handle not being able to P2P etc but this is madness. Hope Afrihost manages to sort out real time downloads soon.

We can also assist anyone having a poor experience. If we can do one on one troubleshooting, I generally find we can find a viable solution or alternative for you :(

i found a viable solution or alternative. i cancelled. and i've sent the detils of my complaint to your offices.

I have found that the majority of the other ISP's that I have tried (Mweb, OpenWeb, WebAfrica, Axxess) have pretty much given me the same issues regarding speeds, ping and shaping. So I really have no idea how to fix this, and to be honest with you I'm too lazy to try and change ISPs again. I don't even mind the shaping, I mind when it is applied when it shouldn't be (at 1AM on Monday morning) and the terrible pings (which I reported on the 23rd and still waiting for a reply). So for now I'm going along the lines of "better the devil you know" and staying with AH.

Hey guys

Just a quick heads up, we're seeing ADSL issues in the South Region (affecting CPT and surrounds)
Increased latency and slower downloads speeds may be a side affect of this - our team are working on this and should be resolved ASAP.
