Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback (Pt2)

If I want to switch from a capped 150gig account to a 4meg uncapped bundle, how will it work?
Will I be able to give back the capped data not used, and have the credit applied to the 4meg uncapped bundle?

You will remain on your capped package until you reach the end of your allocated data. Afterwards, you'll automatically start using the Uncapped data link. (Speaking from personal experience.)

Don't understand why shaping doesn't ease after work hours. If the shaping is because people are back at work, surely the evenings and nights should be smooth sailing?

Yes it should be but once more capacity comes live on the IPC's (from Telkom, Afrihost ordered from last year but its taking awhile to be implemented) shaping should definitely ease much quicker

Finally, No Shaping Applied. First time since Monday that I've seen this. Shall grab this opportunity by the horns.

If you're in the South, you should be seeing much less shaping in the evenings. In the North we're still seeing high demand until the wee hours but we're doing our best to unshape as many people as we can as quickly as we can to give back more bandwidth.

18% and 6% :( Been permanent for the last couple of days!...

You should be getting unshaped at some point in the evenings, if you are consistently connected, though you may not be using your connection. That's why I've always recommended (even when shaping is light) to schedule as many non-realtime services overnight. It's less frustration for you, and we can give more bandwidth back in the day.

Things should definitely change when Telkom installs our new capacity. We didn't expect it last year, so we were glad that we did manage to get a partial upgrade before the year-end.

We're hopeful that the bulk of the capacity will be delivered ASAP :)

Well, I think people are back from holiday. So they could also be working from home, getting ready for school or varsity, or just back to their normal routine. There is also a peak in usage as people arrive home from work (5-6pm). Probably as smartphones log onto home networks and update apps, etc.

And of course those who are heavy downloaders are logging on after working and hitting the network for their downloads or torrents for the day.

I hope so Afriman :) I'm enjoying my stay with Afrihost in any case so far, terrific managing of the network- please don't ever change the management of it. Please don't stop being awesome :D

That's not generally the case. Either way though, it's your shaping policy which changes significantly, and that really determines your experience. Your data links are largely irrelevant :)
