We're getting reports of a general problem connecting from various Cape Town suburbs. We're waiting for confirmation on whether it's an issue on our side or with Telkom.

I'll post up more info when I get it :(

Fwiw, both local and international just went to hell a while ago this side as well (50km north of Cape Town).

EDIT: And now the unthinkable started happening: AH is pulling about 3.6mbps international, whereas TI is pulling 8.55mbps. What's going on with international? I heard Seacom went down, but AH doesn't use Seacom, does it?

Waddap my brother?

I need to quickly find out something.
1.) Is it possible to get the list of 4Mbps Uncapped Users usage form AH?
2.) Is it possible to make my line completely unshapped? (Turbo)
3.) Is it possible to view my current shaping enforcement on my line?

I am a VERY happy AH client on a 4Mbps DSL Uncapped Bundle. However, I must say, I feel your shaping is harsh man, harsh. (Ok, I'm about to burst in to tears!)

Thanks so my bro!!

Afriman/ Afriguy, I have recently been shaped to death- why oh why? I'm on the East IPC and it shouldn't be as busy as the South or other regions. I thought usage was based on how busy the network is but it seems to be based on client usage only, how I know that? Well my sister is also with you guys and on the same package and she never has shaping applied ever. I'm getting to the point of changing my mind about this ISP. I think I'm harshly being shaped during the day and I'm sure the East IPC is not taking as much strain as compared to other IPC regions. Please fix this soon! I don't want to leave you guys :( I was happy with you guys and commended you and recommended you but how you treating me is absurd. I don't want to have to change ISP's as you guys have been great but now I'm seeing the opposite :(

Greetings, welcome to MyBB :)
I can't provide you with a usage list for our Clients, you can check our leaderboard though which lists the top few. In order to have an Unshaped connection on you need to upgrade to Business or move over to Capped.

We're very transparent about our shaping, how we do it and how much is applied to your account - all of this information is available via your ClientZone :)

Hi GreatD7007

I know that the shaping is far from ideal at the moment :( It's been quite hard to plan for IPC upgrades with the recent line upgrades as the proposed schedule seems to be a bit out of sync from Telkoms end. Regardless, we don't want to push the blame around - I promise you we're making adjustments where we can to.

Is your shaping easing up after hours at all?

Hi Afriguy,

I know you guys are doing everything you can but please can you look into my account further as I feel I'm being harshly/wrongly shaped (the percentages are low) and even less than half my line speed is reduced. Please adjust something if you can, will be much appreciated.

After-hours should normally be after work like at 5- 5.30?

We monitor our shaping processes very closely, everything is working as it should. A little after 6pm last night the East IPC looked to be completely unshaped, so your account should have been at 0% shaping a little after that.

Ok I will follow up at 6 - 6.30 pm tonight and let you know. I think no shaping applied only kicks in much later for me though :(

It can take a while to push through to all accounts, we aren't talking hours though. Shaping can be expected during the day, but it should ease up after hours though - looks like the East IPC is doing this nicely.

Only 8 non-Afriman replies the entire day. Must be a record. :) Things have been quite stable since Nov/Dec last year.

AfriGuy, any idea why this might be going on:

Local: http://speedtest.ookla.com/result/2469526746.png (high ping, but good speed)
Intl: http://speedtest.ookla.com/result/2469527585.png (low ping, but really low speed?)

This was tested on my 10mbps home uncapped package, but my AH capped package yields pretty much exactly the same results.

Traceroutes are all normal.

EDIT: And yup, kripstoe - you clearly jynxed it :P

EDIT2: This has been going on for the last 3 days or so - I suspect that's why my Netflix was giving issues - refer to earlier PM.

Ask kripstoe, this is all his fault ;)
On a serious note though - the high latency is a bit odd. I believe our team have been running some tests with you around the Netflix issues, are they aware of these results?

Kripstoe, come over here. We need to.... talk.

And nope, just discovered this now. Will mail to Kyle in the morning - but the high local latency is only the first issue, the second being the low international speed.
