Sorry to hear that. I know that we'd love to shape less where we can, but demand continue to increase and we're still waiting for the full South upgrade we've been promised. As some have noted, the East hasn't seen problems for a long while since it was fully upgraded, and we hope to achieve the same for the North and South once we receive the capacity we've ordered.

I can attest to the east being awesome.

at this very moment I'm unshaped :D

@Afriman re German streaming: Stop talking bollocks. Your shaping cannot just be per protocol and there must be other factors at play. It's straight video streaming from ARD,ZDF and related. Avg. throughput is < 1mbps for three months now meaning I download free to air material by other sources. SSL for work still is also throttled into oblivion, it's apparent that you are under-resourced and desperately throttling uncapped accounts making them unusable.

Please set up accounts for me to test your network:

2 meg business uncapped
4 meg capped

The sources are ARD, ZDF and related mediathek over web sites or direct streams via XBMC.

The tone of this message aside, the network management is what it is - to infer layers of conspiracy is just clouding the conversation unnecessarily. We shape by packet signature, not protocol, which I have mentioned several times.

We don't throttle SSL connections, or even shape by SSL protocol, that would be very difficult to implement and ultimately give our clients a terrible experience that we could not justify.

I think to jump to these conclusions based on random disconnected experiences is not useful in any way.

No more feedback from Telkom yet regarding this? (ETAs, etc).

Bloody hell. Half speed hell is back. YouTube and all right too hell.

Too note...when I had full speed this morning I was unshaped. So when shaping is active I don't get full speed on streaming...

What is happening on home uncapped in the South?? :(

Yeah youtube is very slow even at 240p, post office website is not loading at times. Most local and international sites are slow, what is going on afrihost?

It is defintely being shaped as well...even if they say it is not...

Done 137Gb so far, but that's mainly on weekends, as the norm is 18.8/6.25% during the week. I don't mind the weekday shaping so much, but not being able to run Netflix on a 4mbps line workout constant buffering is ridiculous. The only reason I have done 137Gb for the month is cause realtime sucks, so I have to download what I want to watch. I did cancel my Dstv after all :-(

Anyone know whats going on with the internet tonight..

I've noticed that in some instances ClientZone is a little behind the actual network management system. Can you PM me with your username so I can compare the two systems? If there is an issue here - would really help me to report it :(

Very slow..

Your traces seems mostly fine. What services are you experiencing to be slow?

I might be way off here, but unless you're using a premium news server provider you probably won't get your full speed (due to over subscription of free servers).

I am using a paid service over SSL. The account allows up to 10Mbps and I have never had issues with them. Been using them for almost 2 years

Never have I been shaped on NNTP up until a week ago.

Wow, my bad.
In that case, something's definitely up.

Netflix should not be affected by shaping at all - it depends on what is actually acting on your connection.

There may be artefacts from the demand on the network that intermittently crop up. From experience of previous issues when we've been struggling with contention, these issues will disappear when the new capacity arrives.
