Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback (Pt3)

I've got our guys checking up on this on the Network. We're testing the packet loss on our end, but it could be a number of issues.

When I have more information, I'll post what I've got here.

Use large packet icmp, it is more sensitive. I was using 1200 bytes.

So far, our tests on a regular 10Mbps line (with an Uncapped account) are not showing anything definitive.

Seeing some minimal packet loss, but nothing to the extent reported to here. Are you guys all reporting from North or South?

Is the ESR a piece of MTN equipment or telkom equipment.
Odd that I get packet loss from it, but not from the equivalent piece of kit on the FNB Connect network.

I've also been getting PL for the last few days around 3-5%. While it doesn't affect my browsing or downloads (the insane shaping does that), it makes my Starcraft experience pretty dismal. I'm in Fourways.

As far as I know it's the gateway to the MTN network, so if you're using any MTN backbone account, you should hit the same gateway.

Can you post those comparisons?

Hi
It looks like FNB have moved off MTN's backbone, and only use them for certain peering and transit.

I did post the comparisons earlier

Generally I wouldn't be concerned with 3-5% but seeing consistent packet loss is concerning. Just strange that we're not seeing this across the board. Run multiple tests on this side and I'm not getting similar results :(

5% with online gaming on international servers is a problem. That means 1 in 20 packets needs to be retransmitted after the waiting socket has realised it's not arriving - and that timeout may be as much as a couple of seconds between retransmissions ...

So now we have packet loss and lack of capacity....what's next?

Getting 7Mb/s download speed on a 40Mb/s VDSL....seriously??!!
