Generally I wouldn't be concerned with 3-5% but seeing consistent packet loss is concerning. Just strange that we're not seeing this across the board. Run multiple tests on this side and I'm not getting similar results :(

Well is there some test or something you want us to run to help you find the problem? And 3-5% packet loss is a HUGE problem when you're gaming.

Exactly the same results on 40Mb VDSL on Afrihost CAPPED. 7Mb/s download with 4% packet loss since 8AM this morning.

So now we have packet loss and lack of capacity....what's next?

Getting 7Mb/s download speed on a 40Mb/s VDSL....seriously??!!

100% REALTIME SPEED

Account Overview
Account Status: Account Active
Shaping Policy: 10% Download/ 2.5% P2P

........100% realtime speed my a$$

5% with online gaming on international servers is a problem. That means 1 in 20 packets needs to be retransmitted after the waiting socket has realised it's not arriving - and that timeout may be as much as a couple of seconds between retransmissions ...

On one hop or one set of tests - I wouldn't be concerned. But as I said, consistent packet loss on multiple hops and multiple tests is definitely more concerning, so definitely looking into this.

Packet loss: as far as I've figured out it's mostly caused by Telkom, so a last mile problem. The other day I did a port resync with AH's nice clientzone self-help thingamajing and ... swooosh ... packet loss was gone. Baibai \o/

Oh, btw, when that text appears in clent zone that you're busy redesigning my port and it might take 2 - 3 minutes ... well, one can look at that message for hours, it won't change or give any more detail or any signs of progress. I just close the site after all lights on the router are back on. Works perfectly.

Not in this case as evidenced by the zero loss scenario with fnb

+1

Herman if you have been getting only 25% of what ur paying for, then surely its in your best interest to find the other 75%...

Well in today's internet age, in my opinion though, you get browsers (facebook and such) gamers, streamers and downloaders. For someone like me that falls in 3 out of the 4 categories, I don't really need to download any more. So even with the heavy shaping on the AH network I had a good experience on my line regarding streaming. I have been talking to afriman and their critical team to get nowvideo streaming better, but besides that I am happy. My only reason why I will move if I move is because x isp streams better for instance. Plus that 25% argument only counts for our "linux" downloads, so can't really say you are getting 25% of the overall package.

I have been unable to successfully stream anything in HD even on my line speed. It is so bad now that Netflix on SD buffers. Speed tests show that I am getting less than 25% throughput on a 40Mb/s line. Torrents are at snail pace. I am not awake at 12am to do my streaming or downloads. I wouldnt move from AH regardless of the issues since Afriman has always managed to somehow resolve them. The lack of IPC and capacity is something that will be rectified, however it is a major concern to all.

When I want to play D3 _right now_, and I can't because of packet loss/latency issues, that's pretty much 100% dissatisfaction. Yeah, I'm a whore for instant gratification. That's part of why I pay for 10mb, not 1mb ;)

We are definitely looking into the reported packet loss on our side. Problem is I can't recreate it on a regular 10Mbps line and Uncapped account from my line here in Rivonia. I'm chatting with our other social teams and support and not seeing other reports, so it's a little difficult to determine exactly what could be happening.

For now, could the guys who are experiencing this please PM me their usernames and I'll log a ticket with MTN for now - maybe we can see if they can see something I can't :(

Lol yeah I am on 4mbps and only watch SD, guess I am so used to it by now it doesn't bother me that much any more. But man when on a 40mbps line, you pay a lot se expect it.

I appreciate your faith in me (actually, I would say the team, we solve these issues together). IPC is an ongoing issue, and I'd like to think we're getting better at planning and streamlining this process.

We definitely need to look into the slow throughput you're seeing at this time of the day - especially with the North having just received some more capacity :(

Any specific testing you'd like me to do, please pm me and I'll do it after my exam this afternoon

I'm not sure what more we can test. Let's see what MTN have to say for now. IF they want more data, I'll PM you.

Thanks for the PM - appreciated as always :)
