I tested all weekend (damn, forgot to do the screen capture I promised). Still seeing the same. Getting full 720p on 4Mbps shaped account. Also, getting full 1080p on Capped account. I did notice that YoutUbe was a little choppy, even though the video had downloaded all the way through, so I think this was on YouTube's side (only happened on Sunday evening). Still got full throughput on BitMeter when the video was downloading.

So...since I (the customer) still have a problem with only this account, I have tested with your free 1gb, tried Turbocharge and WebAfrica free 1+1GB and those all run Youtube flawlessly. Now if THIS account doesn't run it well. Afriman, please...what do you think this means...

Drop me links for all the Youtube clips you tested please, I have a feeling I know why it was running fine. Also what does "720p was fine on uncapped and capped was fine on 1080p"? What? Shouldn't capped and uncapped do the same on Youtube regardless.

Also when you tested on Youtube...tell me you watched it while it was loading and you didn't wait for it to buffer the whole vid first...because that's not actually the point. I shouldn't have to wait for the whole vid to load on Youtube on 720p with a 4mb line (if that's what you did.)

I ran the 720p on Uncapped cos it's rate limited to 4Mbps (and I've also asked the Dev team to shape it permanently for me for testing purposes). I tested 1080p on capped, cos there is no rate limit and my line goes high than 4Mbps.

I let the videos play immediately (did not pause to allow to download) and most of them loaded the entire file well before the stream caught up. On 4Mbps Uncapped, didn't load ahead as much, but the little grey line was always well ahead of the play indicator, so no buffering really.

I was mainly watching HD trailers for Transformers, The Equaliser, Walk Among Tombstones, etc. I think I did a YouTube search for HD trailers.

Just a note there though - I pretty much turned everything off on my PC, opened a fresh browser and also disabled WiFi on my router. Only had YouTube and Bitmeter OS running on the PC. I'll test again tonight with more applications running (I'm a tab whore when it comes to browsing) and see if that makes a big difference.

I totally understand that, and I think it's really up to you whether you want to opt for the semi-shaped product or go for unshaped Capped or Business. Especially with Double Data, Capped is a great option at the moment.

Yea I don't mweb is working and afrihost not, unfortunatly I can't assist more than I have already, unless you give me tools I can run to help you guys I have given all the information I can.

VPS was shaped was using open VPN, got same speed test results on vpn and non vpn to international 0.35 down and 1.00 up, my friend tested his business account with the vpn got full 10mb line speed

So basically what you are saying is that Home Uncapped is a sh*t product for anyone who wants to do anything besides browsing during the day and most of the night, and that we need to fork out even MORE cash to the most expensive ISP at the moment, to get what we originally signed up for?

I'm telling every single one of my family members, friends, colleagues and any random person who wants to join Afrihost to avoid you guys like the plague. You guys were such a good ISP.... were...

Why don't you just burst users outright and set the burst durations and ratios dynamically by some ruleset? Run different ques for the P2P services and what not.

I also tested international throughput over the weekend and I was able to max out my line with downloads and torrents (on a Capped account) I don't believe that throughput internationally. Remember that we actually have more international capacity that we have local IPC, so throughput on our international links should never be an issue.

I'll check in with AfriGuy that's passing the results onto the right people. I think ultimately we'll need to monitor traffic as you're using the service so we can see how it is being classified directly on the shaping system, and then determine from there, so we'd need to arrange a specific time with you and the team who work on this area of the network.

I don't believe that's the case at all. Our intention is to make our products work better for all our clients, and for them to give the right kind of consistent value and experience that we envision, and that makes sense for the price point.

I don't think we're the cheapest Uncapped ISP at the moment (we're still tops on other products) but I also don't think we're the most expensive, unless you're comparing us to throttled products too.

Your angry mate.

Afrihost is decent I am with web africa and cybersmart

But at my main location I still prefer Afrihost.

You will have the same issues if not worst with *uncapped at other ISPs


Best advice go for a capped bundle I get full speed constantly had one hick up few months ago , but that was resolved in minutes.

If you are an abuser then stick with the uncapped, but dont complain when you dont rock out 600Gb at full speed.

I mean would it be fair if you pay R397 per month *uncapped, but get the same value as someone paying R1228 for 600Gb capped?

There is a significant user experience gap between 10mbps 600GB capped, and 10mbps uncapped running at 6% line capacity 18 hours a day.
 
I have a 2mb line so cant really comment on the performance of other packages.

My 2mb line is constant at 1.84mb/s

So I'm happy

As I suspected. I searched HD Trailers in Youtube. Tested the whole first page. Every single clips average bitrate @720p was lower than 2mbit which means that they would buffer fine. Once again my line went no higher than 2060kbps and they all buffered fine...because the average bitrate was low enough.


Afriman you are avoiding the point I keep on making. Let me caps for you. WHY does EVERY OTHER account I use work flawlessly AS WELL AS this account as long as it has TURBOCHARGE ENABLED.

Let me guess, Afrihost now depends on the Youtube local cache, so if it isn't cached then this happens....is Youtube really full speed or are you guys depending on the local cache? You're going say...Yes.

See if any of these run well on your 4mbit @1080p to force full line speed: Guess what? NONE of them on my connection. Afrihost 1gb (WORKS FINE), Web Africa 1+1gb (WORKS FINE), just turned on Turbocharge (OH LOOK THEY ALL WORK FINE NOW)

AMAZING! Further proof that you shape non-local youtube. I just ran 2 (TWO!) HD Trailer vids in 720p at the same time with Turbocharge on. THEY BOTH STREAMED. AMAZING. When Turbocharge ends in an hour I bet you I won't be able to do this.

Nevermind that I'm wasting my Turbocharge just to prove to you that Afrihost is shaping Youtube. Hell why am I trying to prove to you...you already know this.

I didnt want to start a debate just saying it is common knowledge that *uncapped across all ISPs are sh*t.

So dont het why everyone keeps complaining. Instead move to cap and they will eventually better the *uncapped products ?
 
Afrihost uncapped is consistently bad over a years' use. Lower your expectations. My neighbour is on 10Mb uncapped and I am capped. The difference is day and night. That Afrihost hasn't even isolated Windows update traffic and the like is deservant of a Meme, but consistent with my experience.
