Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback (Pt3)

Makes one wonder why they doing all these specials if they don't have the bandwidth or support capacity.

It's irresponsible.
I was also a bit confused. "Here, have double capped bandwidth! We don't have the capacity to keep the uncapped accounts afloat without severe shaping, but take what we do have for free". I know the bandwidth comes from separate pools, but rather move the pools around to make sure your uncapped clients (who, I will add once again, are paying a premium compared to other ISP's uncapped costs) don't sit with degraded service.

And yes, I'm referring to both the shaping, and the realtime services being affected due to capacity.

Sorry, I've always been a big Afrihost fan but this is getting ridiculous.

I think they are trying to get good feedback and PR from the capped community to cover up / tie over, the bad uncapped experience we are experiencing.

What happened between yesterday and today? For the last month and a half since the upgrade I've had 100% speed 24/7, now suddenly we are back to shaping?
Unless something happened with the lines this is really unacceptable. If you do a upgrade on your network it should be felt for more than a month and a half...

We're seeing shaping be implemented in a heavier manner than what we're used to seeing - more capacity is on the way which will see shaping ease up.

I'm on unbundled uncapped 4mbps. Is there any way I can change to capped now? The last few days my net is awful. Not just P2P. Even web browsing is a chore now.

Tried to run the speedtest a few pages back but something was preventing the traceroute part. Just times out at every step. I only use Windows 8's firewall and AV so doubt it's that...

You can change to a Capped account if you like, but seeing as browsing and other realtime services are slow for you may indicate a deeper issue here.
Have you run any troubleshooting on this yet? Shaping cannot affect realtime services.

Moved over from Mweb at the start of the month. Already regretting it. Shaping on P2P is understandable (although 6.25% line speed is quite drastic), but on http downloads as well?

Sorry to hear this :(
Does your shaping ease after hours?

Refer to my message (and others) about 2 pages back, where streaming (YouTube and Netflix etc) ARE affected despite them being realtime protocols. I hope this gets better soon, seirously.

Again, if browsing, streaming and other realtime services are slow and not performing well this is something that we'll need to troubleshoot further with you.
Our shaper does not look at these services - they're constantly unshaped.

Retract this.

Feedback thread is depressing, and the rep hasn't replied to my PM sent yesterday.

:(

Do ISP's actually want business?

I only received your PM at 8pm last night and haven't had a chance to reply. I'll run through my inbox as soon as I can.

I'm sure our team has had this factored in.
Capacity should be here soon, regardless.

I know that shaping isn't cool at the moment, and I'm really sorry that you guys aren't having the best experience :(
I can promise you that our Capped promotions have been factored in by our team and isn't the cause for the heavier shaping.

Not at all. These promotions had been planned before we saw the increases in shaping.
We've never ever wanted to cover up anything - we've been very transparent from the get go.

Without the obvious of Business being uncapped what are the other main difference between business and capped accounts as they both are unshapped services. Cant decide as if you add up 2mb 75 + 75 is almost the same as 2 mb business if im correct.

Both Capped and Business Uncapped are an unshaped product.
The Business account offers a static IP as well as optional protocol prioritisation.

So, if I opted to move to a business package today, bearing in mind that I joined AH two weeks ago, I imagine the only ramification for me would be a pro rata charge for the business portion for the balance of this month.

If I had to go one step further and bundle the line in, in theory - I should see no disruption in connectivity, while you port the line over form Telkom?

Correct?

Correct :)

Although, I've heard of 24 hours mentioned for the accounts to transition.

Southern region still at maximum shaping, hasn't eased up since February, I think you're going to lose a customer here guys
