Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback (Pt3)

Capacity is on it's way, should be here soon :)

If I had R1.00 for every time that has been posted specifically regarding the Southern Region shaping I would have enough money to afford business uncapped.

Just for curiosity's sake, did the northern region already get extra capacity?

We did, it was done about a month ago. Unfortunately the extra capacity has already been exhausted. We're also sitting on 18.8% Download/ 6.25% P2P for 18 hours a day :(.

Also remember that some capacity has already been added to these regions :)
More is on the way though.

Capacity is still available in the North :)

I'm not trying to start a fight here, but I don't understand the situation. If there is capacity, then why is everyone in the North being aggressively shaped to the standard 18.8% Download/ 6.25% P2P? This was the shaping that was used when the North was having big capacity issues.

Awesome, so first Afrihost shapes torrents and downloads all damn day. Now I'm getting shaped to 50% on Youtube. ClientZone shows 100% realtime, so why is my speed sitting at 1000kbit when watching youtube? So confused about Afrihost. Everyone recommended them to me but after the last few weeks. I'm struggling to see why...

Anyone else having an issue with Youtube?

Not everyone in the North is being shaped, and the shaping looks to ease quite nicely and fairly quickly after hours.

Not great to hear :(
Doesn't sound like our shaping would be causing this, possibly a deeper issue at hand here. When you can, please paste up a traceroute here so we can take a look at where any potential issues are coming in.

Hey Afriguy I just want to bring up an issue I've discussed with Afriman in the past.

Possible reasons were given by Afriman why shaping would affect the quality of the Netflix stream but I can't for the life of me remember what was said and going back in the thread will take ages.

What reasons can there be for the reduction in quality? I know shaping is not supposed to have any affect on it but it most definitely has, well for me and some other people at least. I am on a 4mb line but struggling to keep a consistent 240p stream going, nevermind anything that resembles HD.

Is there any tests that I can do that can be analysed by you guys to seek a solution to this?

I'm assuming Youtube.com

AfriMan, quick question regarding the shaping.

If I'm on a 4mb line and the ClientZone reports 50% Download \ 25% P2P, does that mean I will achieve 2mb on HTTP downloads and 1mb on P2P simultaneously? (Assuming I have a HTTP and P2P download running at the same time).

Sorry to hear this :(
Does your shaping ease after hours?

Shaping eases up at around 23:00, by which time I'm getting ready for bed. I would like to use the internet at least when I get home. Realtime services are great, but when you're trying to download new graphics drivers on a 4mbps line at 60kb/s it's not cool anymore. Like I say I understand that P2P has to be shaped, but don't quite fathom the need for http download shaping, as that is a core part of receiving files over the internet (updating your phone, anti-virus, everyday applications etc.)
