Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback (Pt3)

Nope :) Been using a topup account from like a year ago. Started out paying (I think) R21/GB, but my last topup was (I think) R7/GB. Seeing as I have your attention, how does gaming perform on uncapped compared to capped? And when a user reaches the threshold and gets throttled, will it impact gaming too?

My gaming isn't affected at all by shaping, remember - uncapped doesn't have a "threshold", it's a dynamic system and shapes only P2P and Downloads when the network is busy. Shaping, Browsing and Gaming aren't affected :)

Interedasting. I shall speak to my wife tonight. Wish me luck :)

If you do 200GB a month or less you can always look at the 100GB + 100GB capped option at R399? We use our ADSL exclusively to stream, we did 183GB of data last month, and we stream a LOT.

Remember we don't throttle - we shape. Shaping should never affect any realtime service like gaming. Generally the experience on Capped and Uncapped (even when shaped) should be very similar.

I actually thought it would be more, but yeah when I say we use it exclusively for streaming, it is only streaming. Facebook here and there, but yeah.

We're seeing more and more demand for HD YouTube streaming - which does use a chunk of bandwidth I guess :)

I've tested some other ISP's recently and with the exception of the shaping, Afrihost suited my needs best. Hopefully things work out next week and we'll be glad we stuck with them.

Thanks for having faith in us. I know we'll make this right for our clients :)

I took the plunge and upgraded from 2Mbps to 4Mbps Business just now, so no worries about the shaping when and if and what and why and blah blah blah...

It still doesn't make a difference in streaming though, which is my main concern. Some of these streaming sites I see I get a max of 500kbps from them, connect to a Axxess 3GB free account or Mweb account the same site and same video pulls 4mbps. So it's not that our lines are to slow, some streaming sites are just throttled I guess because they deliver free content, but again it is a real time service, hmmm.

I've had full speed on streaming, even when the downloads were shaped to 6% or something.
