Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback (Pt3)

I've seen the issues posted here on MyBB, but that is a very small percentage of our overall Uncapped client base. And that is also mainly clients in the South, where other regions have had better performance, with some shaping (which is a necessary part of an Uncapped service).

But also, shafting says that we're intentionally ripping people off - for profit or amusement. I don't believe that is the case. We're doing everything possible to push through upgrades we ordered almost six month ago, long before capacity issues were raised here on MyBB.

I moved to AH last year September to a 1meg Uncapped it worked well to around end November I got fed up and moved to openweb but ill tell you this with Afrihosts IPC issues and all its still faster and more stable then openweb and so im back with the afripeeps on a 4meg business Uncapped yes its a little better then normal uncapped at this point but im sure when ipc is resolved AH will be back to where it was. I dont think AH shafts customers at all. they have been around for a long time I remember my parents using them on dailup and they were the best at the time and they still are. So I still have faith in Afrihost.

International traffic is completely effed-up on Afrihost. I am paying R700 a month for business uncapped and this is what I get !!!

Nothing wrong with the ADSL or telkom cause locally I get this :

Anyone experiencing auth issues in cape town?

Browsing speeds were crawling along, so decided to restart my modem, now its not creating a session.

Seems like I've been shaped at maximum for just under a month now, constantly on 18.8%/6.25% for downloads/P2P. Even at the start of April. I can only assume this means Afrihost actually does use a rolling-window and shapes accordingly.

Whenever the shaping is more relaxed, say 50%/25%, I'm instantly shaped at max again if I even attempt to download anything. I also find it odd that torrents go around 10KBps (~2% of a 4Mb line) when they should be going at ~30KBps (~6.25%)... Extra throttling? I did not -- could not -- break 150GB last month due to constant shaping.

Live services (YouTube, gaming, browsing) work at 100% line speed though.

I'm a new customer to AH but it seems that i have endless issues, I'm not a person to complain but i have not experienced "Pure Internet Joy" When i signed up with AH i gave them all the details to my new telkom standard line and they had to convert it into an ADSL line which they did, however we are 2 companies in one building with 2 separate ADSL lines but it seems as my account has been sync to the other companies ADSL line and not mine. Every time they try and connect me to my line i get no connectivity on my end if they switch me to the ADSL number that doesn't belong to me then it seems to work. I'm using a TP-Link TD W8980 ADSL modem brand new the ADSL light comes on so there is a sync to the ADSL line internet light comes on but no connectivity if i try and access the internet. To my understanding AH 10meg business package you can only sync one ADSL line to the account how they got the other companies line to sync up to my account i have no idea and i seem to think that is the issue that I'm having.

Afriman, i would like to solve this problem so that i can enjoy the pure internet joy.

Looking forward in hearing from you.

Used 4.9Gb this month and I'm shaped at 25%/6.5%. Can't believe I haven't made it to the top 10 heavy users list yet. I moved from Mweb to this :(

Would love to stay with Afrihost based on their prior contributions to SA's overall internet presence, but this utter lack of planning ahead is sad - I hope they consider some sort of reimbursement for these months of poor service delivery.

Ok things changed a bit now. Can't load facebook messages, sites still load fast enough, but anything stream just don't start.

Facebook messaging died completely. This is on business uncapped with NO SHAPING so I can't understand what the problem is. no internet joy tonight, I'm going to bed.

Well done to those blaming their ISP for Facebook problems. Facebook was down temporarily. Absolutely nothing to do with Afrihost.

I said that the messaging part did not work, did not say it was due to anyone. Rouxenator just indicated on what ISP and package he was without directly blaming anybody. :)

Thanks for this post - really means a lot to me and the team. If we always have your trust, then we know we're doing things the right way :)

I'm not seeing problems on international on my side - was actually seeing almost line speed on download tests last night from overseas servers.

Have you run any traceroutes to overseas servers to check for additional latency on the trace?

From the sounds of it, there may have been an extremely brief problem, but I haven't confirmed this. Auth is definitely working 100% now in all regions.

Shaping constantly is pretty awful, and we're hoping to have this relieved as soon as we start deploying the additional capacity we've ordered. We've also got some plans for the future to ensure that we have a fallback for extra resources in a pinch.

Sorry that you've had a bad experience. I promise you that our top management are listening and reading and we're going to keep improving to make your experience better.
