Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback (Pt3)

Has it lowered at all? You could be stuck on a certain shaping policy?

Z

No it was unshaped for most of the weekend.

Saw at about 20:30 that it was shaped. Not sure when it started as it was still unshaped at about 19:00.

Occasional shaping of 75% is acceptable for me on a shaped account. It is when it goes lower than that when I'm unhappy.

Sunday evenings are normally a high usage period.
The only other time I was shaped was Saturday morning between 00:00 and 01:00 afik.
The rest of the weekend was bliss.

Aha I see! Yea, it's possible the network is under a bit of strain :D

I hope it sorts itself out :P just for interests sake, what type of usage are you on (and line speed)?

Z

Wow... That's not a lot hey... What's your average usage? Ever considered a capped account? I mean I've just moved over to a 200GB one, and it's great!

Z

Between 200GB and 300GB.
My usage is low because I used other accounts for myself. The rest of the house hold was using the AH account.
I've used only the AH account since the IPC upgrade.

Okay I see... Yea uncapped is better then :D

Line Speed Dropped

Hi there

I'm having a 4meg line with Afri. Here at 23:30 I noticed the speed dropping. I run the speed test here by Mybroadband, and it gives me a .89kbps down. I ran the saix one, and there it sits for about 30 sec, then the needle jumps past 10, and then reports to me 6.24Mbps????????Come on, I have a 4meg line. The test is to rosebank server.
Then I ran it to Cape Town. The ping is 102ms, and the speedtest is 1.03mbps????

See, I came from OW, but after two days I cannot believe my luck if this is the case for consinstancy?
I was with OW for one year, just the speed during the weeks killed me, so came over to Afri.
Talk about luck.

Sounds like a line fault, which would cause erratic speedtest results.

Please would you run the second tool in my sig and post the results here :)

I'm a lot happier this month on 2mbps uncapped. At least the after hour speeds are decent. Things aren't perfect but it's better than the last couple of previous months.

Yea :) they've added some of their new capacity in to relieve the stress a bit.

Hi there

But why if I was with OW, it was okay, and now suddenly this problem. I tried to download the Nvidia Driver from Nvidia. The download won't start. It just sits there. But youtube is loading okay????

Anyway, heres my test results:

B]
Zertop's "Is it my Line" Results
Basic Report:
[/B]

Your average ping was 37ms
Your maximum ping was 53ms

Looking at your average ping, your line seems to be a bit dodgy :/ This may account for any slow speeds you may be experiencing. However, it could just be related to a high-latency home network (ie... Wi-Fi). If you feel the need, please post the results (at the end of the program) into the forum for advice

Hmmm.... It sounds like you could have an issue with the account then :( The pings look okay, not great but okay. I think the best thing to do would be to PM AfriMan and get him to check out your account for issues :)

When last did you test with openweb?

Yea, those are classic symptoms of a VPN...

Are you sure you are not using one?

A VPN is basically when you connect via another server, proving a secure link between yourself and that server. It is often used to connect to a US VPN for access to Netflix etc...

It seems that the issue is shown across all accounts.... So it's not only shown on your Afrihost account...

Please would you post the results from my first tool attached, as well as a screenshot from your routers status page :)

If you need any help getting these things, just PM me and I'll be happy to help!

Z :)

No,

A VPN is something that you would have to put in place. You don't need to worry about it being a virus...

Please would you connect to your Afrihost account, go to whatismyip.com and send the result to me over PM :) it would help a lot to make sure everything is right with your configuration.
