Can you please explain the Pause option in the Client Zone?

Pause this Service

You can now temporarily 'Pause' your account for up to 6 full months with only a few clicks.

You can schedule a payment/service holiday from any point in the next month onwards - since you've already paid for this month. Perfect for when you're going to a remote island in Bali for a few weeks!

Does this mean that the moment I go through the process that my service will be canceled ito availability, that I won't be charged any more, till I resume it?

What is the idea behind the service?
 
Morning All!

Hope everyone had an awesome Easter break! As you can probably guess - I spent a few days relaxing on the couch catching up some urgent vegetating!

I'm going to be combing through threads to see what's been up.

I did notice there there were some problems on exchanges noted in the Cape and Durban over the weekend, unrelated to our IPC upgrades. I'm still putting all the pieces together though - but seems like all the exchanges that were down are being reported back up by Telkom.

"Perfect for when you're going to a remote island in Bali for a few weeks!" Pausing the internet service you won't be using while you're away from home on vacation until you get back. No wasting money. Otherwise you'd have to go through the process of cancelling and signing up again.

To you too. Afriman one question, I asked this last week but no one answered.:(

We know the South IPC only got a partial upgrade but what of the East IPC. We know it got upgraded, but was it also a partial one like the South or was it the planned full upgrade?

The pause option is basically a way to suspend billing and service for a period of up to 6 months so you can go on holiday or overseas and not have to worry about paying for a service you can't use or don't need for that time.

Once you unpause, services resume again as normal, or if you resume really - we just charge you a pro-rata amount for the remainder of the month.

The East got the full planned upgrade to my knowledge, but we're also implementing a long terms failsafe, so we shouldn't run into problems in the future.

We're still waiting for the same to happen in the South and North.

Not sure what needs explaining here. Still going through all the messages. I'm guessing to do with shaping.

I did post on a couple of threads that shaping is always going to have some presence, our goal is to make shaping as little as we possibly can, and also to design a shaping system that is a unintrusive as possible, so that you always have a great experience regardless.

Seeing that the upgrade in the South was only provisional again - I would expect that we're probably still going to see shaping kick in at peak times, but to a much lesser degree and we should see unshaping happen a lot sooner than we have int he past few weeks.

Does the 25th or 27th (can't recall which is the cut off date for cancelling) play a role in the Pause option?

18 / 6% at 2:30AM?
 
Still sitting at this: Shaping Policy: 18.8% Download/ 6.25% P2P
I have no problem with shaping, but you can't shape to this degree and call it fair. What was the point of the LONG awaited IPC upgrade?

If this is constant this is what I'm actually paying for:

4096 / 100 * 6.25 = 256 (not taking into consideration contention)
so let's take contention into consideration, lets be generous and give Afrihost a 15:1 contention ratio
That leaves me with a maximum download speed of 17kbps

I got better download speeds on 56kbps dial-up, and it worked out cheaper that R597.00 PM
I know ADSL is a best effort service, but worse than dial-up can't be best effort, I expect better from my ISP

50GB used this month on my 2MB account. I got just over one day of decent download speeds after the IPC upgrade, now I'm shaped back to 25%/6.25%. Torrents going at 5kB/s. The shaping is constant. Not just during peak hours, but 24 hours a day. If you read back you'll see numerous others are experiencing the same. That needs explaining.
 
It seemed to only have done so a few days. I think the major burst of people gunning the network since the IPC upgrade has brought everything down to slow again. Really bleak about Afrihost only getting 20% of the IPC order :(
