Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback (Pt3)

Absolutely ridiculous shaping in the North. Afriman, what gives? It's the weekend and I'm shaped to 6%??

Shaping should have been fairly light over the weekend, but there was some shaping present for sure.

I'm still waiting for some feedback on when our upgrades are going to be delivered. As soon as I have any info, I will let you guys know :(

Hey guys, my brother got his Adsl on Monday with Afrihost. His ADSL line is still in the process of moving to Afrihost, but the Netgear Router he bought at a hefty price from incredible connection (R1500), he thinks the thing doesn't work, got to power off/on the whole time to get the internet back or faster again. Is it the Netgear router that's crap, is it due to the Adsl line still moving or does he have a crappy dsl line maybe?

I'd need to look at the stats from his connection. Could you PM me with the details?

I don't understand how things can get so bad so quickly. It's like a switch was flicked :/

Well for me it was the usual 12.5/6.25 over the weekend, I don't know if that is considered light at the moment as it seems to be the norm

That's pretty much the harshest policy on the system. But I saw that demand didn't really seem to peak over the weekend. I imagine that the lightest users were probably less shaped or unshaped.

Still waiting for test from you as per my last PM - please check cos I've got the MTN guys waiting for the results :(

Oh crap sorry man. I actually have been playing from my FNB Connect account for the last while, it completely slipped my mind.

Will try again tonight. Apologies :(

Awesome - will keep that enquiry open for you to make sure we can get some help with this.

Wazzup in Western Cape - CPT - Table View - my house?

Not even 4 MB on a line that usually syncs 8 MB stable. Growing a beard while waiting for pages to load, YT buffering like in the good old times, American game servers kicking me, all the fun stuff. AH, since nearly 3 mths I'm having more pain than joy with your service. Not enough capacity in the South? Again? Or is Telkom mucking about at the exchange? You guys are managing my line, so get to work and inquire and find out and solve the dam problem! Else ... uh, err ...

Trying to watch the E3 stream on Twitch. is Twitch the one bugging around or is Afrihost the one? Since line speed is all over the place. You guys prioritise real time and I remember previous problems with Twitch so...what's happening?

We'd need to look into this a little further - definitely sounds pretty horrible.

If you are getting 4Mbps throughput - you should still get stable service though, and your latency looks fine. I think we need to run some more tests here, cos it sounds like there could be another problem. Please drop me a PM when you get a chance.

Twitch comes up often, in my experience it depends on the stream and how late you come to the party if the server is getting congested. I know this has been mentioned on Twitch forums previously.

If you aren't having issues with any other video streaming - then I would guess it's Twitch specific :(

We definitely want to review Bundle pricing - but we'd ultimately like to build a better system so we can offer the best possible prices without developing a complex matrix of bundles and offerings. It's confusing for us, and for clients.

We have some ideas on how we'd like to re-deploy this. As soon as I have an ETA on this, I'll let everyone know :)

This reply was on the 29/04/2014... a month and a half has passed and we are still in the dark?

We're already started by revising our entire bundle logic and billing. I don't know the go live date, but the intention is definitely to make bundles simpler and offer universal value for clients.

The twitch servers can't handle all the bandwidth it gets.
I've heard complaints about it from outside SA shores.

Just as a side note. Supersport streaming has been working flawlessly for the last month. Even the quality is great!

Some awesome news for clients in the North. We have received some additional IPC capacity to improve our client's overall experience. We should start seeing an overall improvement. Thanks for bearing with us.

However, just remember that we can still use the network optimally for the best benefit. I'd always like to encourage clients to schedule torrents and heavy downloads for late at night or overnight, so that we can avoid shaping as much as possible. At least you know you can get something you urgently need as quickly as possible, and there will always be excellent performance for your realtime streaming, gaming and browsing services.

I'm still awaiting news on the South upgrade - I believe it's also imminent.

How much has capacity increased by? Another 20%?

:erm: So in other words will take 5 years?

Unfortunately I don't have the figures - but I believe it should be enough to improve client's experiencing the symptoms reported here.

I don't even know what this means. I haven't been at Afrihost five years yet and we've done multiple upgrades to our network and each sub-networks capacity.

Haha that was a good/funny reply. Had a lekker laugh.
