Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback (Pt3)

I think this has come up a few times. We calculate bundle upgrades on the individual product value and not on the overall bundle value, only for the pro-rata month when the upgrade is requested/effected. This has always been the case (at least for as long as we've had bundles) as it is generally impossible to use the bundled rate as the products vary.

Thank you for the response.

Could I request then that the products web page (or maybe the FAQ page) be updated to reflect this?

The consumer protection act is breached in this regard as you do not tell clients about the additional charges.

I will accept that this is standard practice currently, but request that you please rectify the situation.

I'm having huge problems with Facebook video streaming, it barely buffers, Youtube is perfectly fine however, no shaping applied either

Very odd that Facebook is only the issue.
Is this a relatively new problem that's popped up?

Shouldn't be any reason for this, is your Business Optimisation turned on or off?
The setting is available in the ClientZone.

Business Optimisation is ACTIVE. I am currently getting exactly ZERO KB/s.

PM'ed you my account name...

Yea only over the past 5 days, I am using UnoTelly if that helps? But I wouldn't think their systems interfere with Facebook?

18.8% Download/ 6.25% P2P

Shaping like this at 5:50 in the morning... How Afrihost has fallen.
Can't wait to cancel my account. So tired of this "dynamic" shaping system that you implemented.

Since you started shaping (about 2 months ago) all my downloads are slower, browsing speed has not improved, gaming has not improved, so all your system has done is made me unable to download files when I need them quickly, which is the whole point of having a 4mbs account.

So my download of 182Mb was throttled to 10KBps the whole night. It did not even finish downloading. Thanks for taking us back to 2000.

Totally agree with you. They shape us into the ground so that real-time services should work at optimal performance, yet I struggle to stream a 240p video off youtube without it buffering for several minutes. I log onto my Webafrica uncapped account, and youtube magically sorts itself out.

The shaping does seem to be getting worse. I don't think anyone was unshaped for the last 24 hours.

Afrihost are now as bad as Telkom with their uncapped product. At least Telkom has the decency to tell their clients that they will throttle people. On Afrihost we are on a 4 month 'testing period' where we get throttled.. sorry I meant shaped into the ground.

Yeah, additionally I had to format my pc earlier this week. Trying to do windows updates took forever. Ran updates from 22:30 and it only finished downloading at 05:30 the next morning (about 1.2gb).

After that I had to download Windows 8.1 (2.3GB) I started the download at about 10:00 and after about 2 hours it was at 1%. I had to borrow my friends WebAfrica account and the whole download was finished after 3 hours.

Also when I turned on Turbocharge the download speed was only at 200kb/s while trying to update Windows. (No congestion on exchange, no line faults, etc).
When you use a WebAfrica account it downloads at 420kb/s.

I no longer feel that I am getting value for the money that we have to pay Afrihost every month.

It's more likely to be a DNS issue than shaping or network. Pretty much every client would have been unable to access Facebook if that was the case (though it would be a similar issue for UnoTelly users - depending on which of their servers you were using).

Clear your browser cache and flush DNS and give it another try :(

There was a problem on the network yesterday where shaping was not managed the way it should have been, in that we didn't relieve shaping dynamically through the night for all users. We're still investigating why this happened, but I do sincerely apologise for this error. I was made aware of it this morning :(
