Hey Afriman,

Website only says 50% off first bill. Not as you mentioned.

Do you get billed for the pro-rata and the first full month all on the first bill?

You get 50% of this month's pro-rata AND 50% of your first full month. If it doesn't happen, PM me and I'll make sure you get a credit (but it works, trust me) :)

We're looking into the high ping times and slow speeds some have mentioned. We're not too sure what the cause might be, but as soon as I have some answers, I'll post them here.

Those having problems, can you give me an idea of what areas you are in?

I'm in Somerset West, 021 852 number, if that helps. Lemme know if you need my username. I will only be able to test tonight.

When I check my usage graph I see that almost every day my downloads drop to below 300Mb p/hr for the 2 hours between 21:00 and 23:00.
After 23:00 it goes back up to full speed (4Mb).
Area is 012 653 XXXX

I do find that speeds during the day are totally fine most of the time and the slow downs are usually at night, i don't have a usage graph though.

When the slow downs happen I have noticed that ping times seem fairly unaffected.

Thanks for PM-ing me your usernames and ADSL details. I'll be investigating this further and let's see what we can find out. So far only Cape Town numbers though ... anyone else experiencing this in other areas?

Hi Afriman,

I think that I have figured it out...

I think that due to the (probably) massive uptake of your uncapped accounts, the POP that has been put in cpt isnt managing with the increase in volume in the Western Cape. If People in GP haven't had any issues, then the only thing it could be is the amount of IPC that is available to IS in the Western Cape?

does that make sense?

Makes sense, i'm checking into this. I also see a few threads citing issues on Western Cape exchanges, though I haven't received notification from Telkom regarding this.

I'm still waiting for some feedback from our network engineers regarding this.

I doubt it's a Telkom exchange issue if the pings aren't affected.

Hey Afriman,

Getting similar slowdowns here in Stellenbosch, haven't quantified anything yet but sites feel more sluggish since the weekend and some images don't load on the first go on heavier sites like Engagdet, will PM you details.

Perhaps demand is catching up to the networks down here :p
