That looks relatively good for the FS...

remember you have to travel to a primary exchange such as the Rosebank exchange, so you will have slightly higher ping than someone in Gauteng. Similarly, someone in George would have a higher ping than say someone living in Cpt.

That ping is still acceptible for the distance your packets must travel to the speedtest server

Thanks

I figured that the distance would have a slight if almost nil influence on ping times. Not so much though.

Was getting very jealous of people talking about their sub 10ms ping times.

My pings are now nearing 30ms to Cpt servers. This is a far cry from the 8/9ms they were averaging about a month ago.

AfriMan - Any word on what might be causing this high ping?

Does a traceroute show you where the latency picks up?

My ping to the exchange is about 6/7, and then as soon as it goes to the cpt data centre (cinx??) it shoots up to 25ms odd.

That looks like the link between CT and bloem is a bit congested? (cas2-blm-1?) Or is IS just reusing IP addresses without fixing DNS?

Hi Guys, we definitely listening to your feedback, and we are trying to get to the bottom of the issue. Our server admins have asked for the following:-

1. Stop all other traffic (applications)
2. Run a traceroute to mybroadband.co.za and then to cnn.com

Please PM me the results with your username, so that I can escalate this.

Appreciate it :)

How many gigs can one download on the 1mb uncapped package? Sorry if it's been answered before.

Depending on network traffic and capacity over the 30 day rolling period, between 120-140GB. More or less, give or take a few episodes of Continuum.

You been stalking me? haha. Thanks for the reply.

SO far no issues.

Except for the dang power failures

We're nearing 10Gb with normal use. No torrents or NSBz's...

Kiddies love it - logged them in to lego.com and they played with the online games there. Now daddy doesn't need to worry about getting capped.

iPad updates, windowsupdates etc, no need to worry about those chomping cap  :D

I'm on 51GB and so far so good. I noticed it was a bit slow over the weekend, I was doing a bunch of Windows updates and Ubuntu updates as well as downloaded + installed Linux Mint on to another PC.. (fun weekend) - much of the time I wasn't able to break 120kb/sec (4mb uncapped), seems ok again now though.

I cancelled my Afrihost 4mbps uncapped today. Sorry guys... Sticking with MWeb 4mbps uncapped.
Still a good deal though.

I saw your post re sites loading slowly. Can you PM me with some more details so we learn more about this?

Thanks :)

Hi AfriMan

My download speeds TO and FROM USA are extremely slow. I use a VPN to access Netflix but barley break the 1mbps speeds to their server their.

I have a 10mbps connection.
