Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback

Those stats are a slap in everyone's faces that are having problems. Clearly not all clients are shaped/throttled equally

@Afriman

I think its a bit of an F U to your current uncapped users. Most of us are battling with crap speeds 80% of every day.
You asked us to be patient because this will be solved with the new capacity.
Yet you post a download challenge for people to destroy what is left of the newtwork?
You must know that untill the new (ETA not available) upgrades are completed this will just put more strain on a network that is already on its knees.

Downloading Nvidia drivers at 217 bytes a second. 15 meg adobe flash player update taking half an hour. Web browsing is fine and gaming speeds are awesome. If i switch to my backup accounts on Fnbconnect and Telkom i get full speeds. This is driving me up the walls.

A slap in the face , a punch in the gut and a precisely aimed spit in the eye whilst we are on the ground for good measure.

Come on, be realistic, they have your money already, so you are no longer interesting, it is only the new clients that they are trying to attract that they are interested in. This whole exercise was thought up by the marketing department, most likely by someone who is getting bad download speeds at home on their private line, in the hope that it will do damage to the Afrihost name.

Just for the record, I am in no way angry with Afriman. He is the voice and the helper of Afrihost to us. He is in no way resposible for the network (unless he partly owns Afrihost, then I am an Angry Panda). And he has to carry our message to his bosses. He is the man in the middle and is expected to have the answers as he is the person we deal with. Hopefully by the end of the day he can let us know what is happening to the people who are getting less than 10kb/s (I am one) for the last couple weeks. Then about how long the upgrades will be. Imagine going to your boss and saying: "Listen.... Our network is ****ing out badly. We need to stop subscribing immediately and sort out this mess." No chance that will happen. But perhaps a couple of those 800gb a month users to take a permanent vacation. We all want proper uncapped but it cant be fair when some users are pulling so much more and it forces the others to be stuck on 10kb/s during the day. Afriman get your answers and please get back to us.

Have a Afrihost 1mb Uncapped Bundle - Things were going great for 5 month, so moved the Telkom line to Afrihost as well......3 weeks later I have a download speed on torrents of about 5kb/s nearly ALL DAY. Occasional burst of speed takes it to a download of maybe 50kb/s for a few min, then drops back down. Contacted Afrihost to ask if they were throttling us...only to receive an e-mail asking me to do speed tests, with and without filters, and also test using Telkom guest account as well as Afrihost account....take screenshots and send to them?.....there goes a good hr of my time....

I thought Afrihost can see this information on their network?

Can't they just advise if I'm being throttled or not? Used 70GB according to their client zone so usage is high (I understand that)...but not knowing when and at what level they will throttle leaves the connection almost useless...And the data usage is no where near the high's shown by there TOP PERFORMERS???? I've looked on their Customer Zone, and all shows working as normal? So how do we know when we're actually being throttled? and when the problem lies with equipment or Telkom?...... Just some simple advise would be appreciated if anyone can help. :-)

They have my money just for the remainder of this month , they wont be seeing a cent more of it.

Browsing seems fine - Everything else does not work lekker. Downloading off a webpage is under 10kb/s and Torrents are under 8kb/s. That is my experience. Anyone else want to post on gaming? I don't so can't comment on that. :(

T...
Just remember we're jumping to over 50% more capacity when we implement local IPC in DBN and CPT, and this should change Uncapped performance dramatically. ....

I just feel its unfair to charge me full price for a crippled service because of poor planning on AH side. Reason why I'm moving on.

As I've said in previous comments, it's dependant on usage patterns, but many of these clients would have experienced the same priority/QoS settings, and still accessed this amount of bandwidth. Granted it would have been over December when there was a lot less demand, so you can also factor that in :)

If there is no throttling, then is EVERYONE experiencing such low speeds all the time? Are they basically stopping all torrent downloads?

We're not stopping or blocking them, simply giving higher priority to other services. When demand for real times services is less, as well as demand for download capacity, then speeds improve significantly on file downloads, P2P and torrents.

Thanks for not being angry with me (and no, I don't have shares in the company unless you count love, adoration and general die-for-my-brand loyalty) :)

I think many people are misreading the intent behind the leaderboard. It's not at all meant to be a slap in the face, or to undermine or belittle the issues that many are experiencing. It's purely a measure to show that there is a flipside to every coin and some users are still accessing large amounts of bandwidth, at less than 50c per GB in some cases, and we are totally OK with that. Remember that this is also a feature that is here to stay, so when our additional IPC and national capacity come online, we'll still be OK with Uncapped users grabbing as much as they can.

Remember also that this is mostly from over the December period, but the leaderboard is live, so the figures will change daily, as the rolling window moves forward. So it also gives you an idea (in real time) of what the highest users are getting, compared to yourself (if you're not one of them).

No offense or insult is intended at all. I think it's not a question of the network being on it's knees. The fact the real time services continue to perform well shows that we can maintain a stable network, and a good internet experience, even when demand is extremley high. We do acknowledge that some of our clients are having a difficult time when it comes to downloads, and we hope that when that is relieved, you'll grow to appreciate (perhaps aspire to) our leaderboard page :)

So when you don't have capacity for downloads most of the time, it's a good idea to create a download competition?

I still think someone in your marketing department needs to be fired. Worst. Idea. Ever.

I have I mentioned that I have this urge to physical hurt somebody?

I am pretty sure those high downloader users are afrihost employees, hence they are excepted from QoS
