I see a few guys complaining about slow speeds. As far as I can tell, shaping on the network is a bit lighter that it was during the day, so at the very worst it should be the same or better, as far as our network is concerned. We're still keeping traffic well within contention limits, so there shouldn't be slower speed than you experienced earlier in the day.

Can anyone having this problem drop me a PM, and we'll look into this more closely?

So better to do it early in the month in case it takes a while?

I had to do everything myself mate. I was told by 3 different support staff from Afrihost that I would have to call telkom and my previous ISP to cancel, change over, and migrate. This included 20+ minute phone calls to telkom at a time.

Just want to check from you AfriMan, reason for slow international throughput due to Seacom?

Today is my first day with Afrihost (Mweb refugee) ;-)

On 2mb line Century City area - full speed the whole day - impressed, hope it stays like this

If your line is with Telkom, it doesn't really matter cos we work the billing out with them so you're not double billed. If your line is with another ISP you'll have to cancel with them first, and we can start the process once it's back with Telkom.

Unfortunately if the line is with another ISP, Telkom don't allow direct ISP to ISP tranfer, and we can't initiate a transfer with the ISP. Once it's with Telkom, we can take it from there.

We're not running primary capacity on Seacom, but as I understand it the same issue which caused the Seacom break affected one of our primary links on EASSy. As I understand the break is less serious, so we expect it to come back online fairly soon. We've diverted traffic onto WACS and tertiary redundancies to deliver best throughput until EASSy comes back online.

Intl gaming still impossible. I just crashed out. :wtf: It's now going on since weeks already. Surfing, torrrenting, youtubing all works smooth tho. It's just the ooomph that's lacking.
Will transfer my line over to you guys since I hate phoning Telkom, but I wanna be sure it's the right choice.

International issues should only be since the weekend, my own gaming tests seem fine on PS3 and Xbox. Maybe drop me a PM with more details so we can replicate and test on our side.

I noticed the shaping policy relaxed after midnight, downloads were normal.

Seems the heavy shaping only applies in the day when the rest of you lot are trying to use up my internets... Get off now! It's mine... My preciousssss

I suspect it is so that Business can go unhindered. I do not run p2p during work day.

We do prioritise Capped and Business, as those clients pay for unshaped bandwidth, but shaping purely driven by demand. If there is available capacity, we will make it available to uncapped users. Our intention is to always get as close to an unshaped experience as we possible can when there is enough capacity to do so, and to give the best overall experience when there isn't.
