Done 555Gb now in Durbs with no internet.

Next time i drive down i guess i'll need to tow down a large roll of copper wire... :sly:

Okay I did say that I was no longer going to comment on this subject but your juvenile response just can't go unanswered.
Oh, goody...
Firstly had the My BB headline been the lead in an advertisement for Afrihost's uncapped service I can guarantee that there would have been a flood of complaints and the ASA would have quickly shut it down.
Good thing it wasn't then; it was an article on an unaffiliated technology news website. Headlines are routinely formulated in order to draw attention. It worked on you, it's just unfortunate that you didn't take the time to read the article. Headlines aren't meant to convey every detail in an article - if they did they'd just be articles without headlines.
Your facetious last line doesn't warrant a response.
Yet there it is...
BTW I am sticking with Afrihost as besides the recent problems I have previously had good service from them and hope this will continue.
Good for you. Now, understand that my facetiousness was a response to your desire not only to absolve yourself of responsibility, but to shift that responsibility onto a third party.

Rently, in a very stupid "accident", I deleted our 1.5 TB external HD. It was almost full. Yes, all Hollywood blockbusters and valuable international arthouse movies. So wifey and me are trying to build up our movie collection again.
Why am I telling you this?

Because we did a lot of torrents during the month of March and cracked for the first time ever the 200 GB barrier. Amazingly no shaping or throtteling did happen. I guess we're still on the truly uncapped product we signed up for. Of course it's not always great and sometimes even ridiculously slow, and international online gaming is a pita. But I blame that on the ICP probs and cable breaks and what else issues AH have to deal with.

Like always I can only tell you guys that sticking it out with Afrihost will pay off in the long run! See all the guys who jumped ship, they are now complaining about the same ****ty service with their new providers. The grass isn't any greener on the WA, Openweb, Telkom, PLuGG, Access pastures. They face the same problems but they are managed worse and have to pay more.

Oh my, do I sound like a fanboy? I can assure you I ain't. I'm always critical and demand a good service for my money, from AH as well as I would from any other ISP. At least AH are telling us about the problems and where they mucked up themself. And they give us cool mystery bonuses. The line was very bad since October 2012, so they didn't charge me at all for November, December, January. And February we got 90% off. And right now they are not managing uncapped accounts.

That's nice isn't it?

This was truly awesome to read! Really appreciate your perspective and your faith in us! I'll be sharing this with the entire team, it's exactly the response that inspires us to do what we do :)

AfriMan, go visit the family or something. Your presence isn't required unless the network falls over again over the course of the long weekend.

Any news on EASSy?

Way to look past the copyright and look at the positive :p

At least my March usage has given me stuff to keep me busy at the coast.

I'm happy with AH service so far. I am honestly not happy with the 5% shaping I got the last week, but if it's implemented only to stabilise accounts while eassy has issues then it's to be understood.

My hope is to see these restrictions ease off when the capacity is back again though.

Well I have full downloading speed, when the afrihost news server is running. 20 mins downloading then 20 mins if nothing, then 20 minutes of downloading.....

I've been sending queries to get some info, I still don't have an update. I know there are trying to bring the cable back up and they'll be working through the Easter weekend to get this done. As soon as there is an ETA, or a workable alternative, we'll let you guys know.

Family? I've forgotten what they look like ;)

I see a few posts about slow speeds. Can you be specific if there are download speeds from a speedtest, or if it's from a file download. It might also be worth checking your ClientZone shaping indicator if it's a torrent or file share, and see if your experience is consistent with the shaping policy you're on. But also bear in mind it's always capacity driven. The shaping policy will adjust as more capacity open up (as people from Joburg arrive in Cape Town and Durban) ;)
