I see a few posts about slow speeds. Can you be specific if there are download speeds from a speedtest, or if it's from a file download. It might also be worth checking your ClientZone shaping indicator if it's a torrent or file share, and see if your experience is consistent with the shaping policy you're on. But also bear in mind it's always capacity driven. The shaping policy will adjust as more capacity open up (as people from Joburg arrive in Cape Town and Durban) ;)

I think it is ridiculous about the sharping policy I pa for a 10 mb account and after 38 gig download I'diden use afrihost for 2 weeks I'm on 10% Download speed

IMHO 5% is faster than 10% because 10% is 90 of 100 and the speed would be 90Mb/s of 100. My says 5 % permanently therefore I think it is broken BUT the "realTime" thingy might work 'cos mine says 100%

Well it's never been explained whether "Shaping Policy: 5% download speed" means:

A. Shaped TO 5% OF download speed.

or

B. Download speed shaped BY 5%.

I rather suspect A, as I am getting ~5% of download speed. And no Afriman, I won't PM my details as I don't think my problem is unique.

The shaping policy percentage is the download speed you might experience on torrents and file sharing. Real time should always read 100%. So percentage of your line speed. It's not the same for HTTP downloads, and I'm hoping that can be updated ASAP.

The download setting should not permanent, unless you're a leaderboard contender moving TBs of data. From what I can see lots of guys are running unshaped, especially in JHB, so most's people shaping settings should fluctuate at some point.

Hey guys, where does one check this 'shaping indicator' in the ClientZone?

I'm running at about 15% speed now and it's 3:56am

Okay, for the 1st time I see my shaping policy has changed from 5% to no shaping. Just because it is the bewitching hour I don't know.

I find your statement still a bit ambiguous :-) Do you mean I must run at 5Mbs of 100 or 95Mbs of 100? With a shaping policy of 5%? Because that would be around 40KB/s of 2Mbs line/package. I have been nowhere near there.

Strange ......... I am at full line speed nntp, and p2p, p2p is actually running faster than normal also CT.

Done 35GB on 10Mbps and no shaping yet

But I do most of that bandwidth on netflix and video streaming

My torrents hitting 900kbps+ since after 1 this morning, and still going strong :D "taratatata I'm loving it" :D I know it will fluctuate, so might as well have fun now...

Youtube and Netflix flying this morning!

Dear Afriman.

I hope you are well. On Sunday Night 31 March (Americanese Time) HBO will be screening a show. It should be available about 6am South African Time on news servers and torrents. I will want to watch it during my dinner on Monday night. If for some reason the internet is broken or my account is managed, I will come and visit you at your place of employ on Tuesday morning and I will bring winter with me.

Regards,

Grubscrew
