Update on this: Word from afrihost is that a technician was assigned to this but if anything its getting worse. now my line is syncing even slower at 2Mbps, to add insult to injury, im being shaped to 50% so i get to use less than a quarter of the line and data im paying for. Im really starting to regret my move to afrihost....

SERIOUSLY??? (4Mbps line)

Test conducted on 17 April 2013 06:07:40 PM

Download Speed: 531 kbps (66.4 KB/sec transfer rate)

Upload Speed: 420 kbps (52.5 KB/sec transfer rate)

Latency: 36 ms

Its like afrihost have pulled a plug out and my internets are slowly running out the drain...

(Edit:Test was to local server<30km away btw)

Download what? My "downloads" is shaped to 25% and p2p to 6.5% That is slow and bloody slow.

Afriman

Late last night and early this morning i had sub 200ms latency and full line speed. How come between 6 and 11pm the latency and speeds are crappy? Honestly this is really bad for a 4meg line.

A tracert. Getting routed through Japan?

Ive noticed that, regardless of what speed my line syncs at, the most i ever get on speedtest is exactly 83% of the sync speed. anyone else have the same?

That's not a problem, it's expected. You'll never achieve sync speed due to TCP overheads.

Sure, i understand this, if you have a 2meg line with 2meg data you wont necessarily get 2meg download speed. In my case i have a 4meg afrihost line which syncs at 3meg and then i get roughly 83% of the 3meg sync speed so i end up with only about 62% of what i pay for.

If afrihost cant give a line that syncs at the full line speed they should at least give me full data use up to my sync speed, no?

Telkom supplies the line BUT PM Afriman with your login so he can have a look,

Anyone having a problem connecting? It dropped about 30 mins ago and won't let me back on.

No mate. Highest Netflix quality uses around 1GB per hour. The line easily handles that kind of traffic in 60 minutes.

That aside, the quality currently is just plain BAD. And apparently Netflix assesses your line quality and streams content to you accordingly. There has to be some kind of problem with the network?

Internet is slow and latency is super high this morning.

Things seem to be very unstable the last few days. Varied latency and speeds. Pings at over 300ms but when a tracert is done all looks okay.

I can't connect to a site hosted by RSAWEB. Times out.

Update: it works now but routing through the UK, where before it was trying locally.

My downloads are flying in at over 500KB/s this morning. AH seems fine for me.

Downgraded my line to 2MB uncapped business package and have had no issues so far. Even Netflix is running fine
