AfriHost uncapped ADSL here soon

There is a need and place for uncapped dsl, but imo the majority of ppl are not powerusers. If AH want to expand and keep their customerbase they have to intoduce "cheap" unshaped packages of 10, 20 50 100 and 200 gig. That will cover the lionshare of users

Can you be a bit more specific on what AfriHost did in letting you down BIG time ? Was it bad support ?

Well, to make a very long story short, Afrihost (IS) will not allow us to SMTP using their BW! They for some aparent reason think that our company is a "spammer" when we reply to our clients emails. Using SAIX we did not have a days trouble but their prices are high. (Afrihost is 50% cheaper for us)

From the day we switched to Afrihost (IS) we were unable to send email and I contacted IS myself this week, after receiving support replies from Afrihost like "Intermitend connectivity on ADSL will affect sending email..." and "You cannot have more than 5 recipients per email" and "The mail size limit is 2MB". (This is where the MWeb fine print is by the way :wtf:)

Come now, we run a business for crying out loud, we have over 70 users and we need to send 14 emails to reach all of them and it cannot be in the same hour with a size limit of 2MB??

In all this, I must thank WebAfrica for comming to the party, they helped me a huge amount this week making special arrangements wrt this issue.

Thanks WebAfrica!

I think your mentality IS the problem. (No offense intended). There is no need to cap Internet anymore. The rest of the world is rolling uncapped - why anyone would want to encourage any form of cap is bonkers to me. People that use less the ISP will make more profit / people that abuse the ISP will lose money. It can balance based on your price point. Its doable and the world is doing it. Caps are nothing but a history lesson. Let them Die.

Yea thats crap - if thats true then I don't know If I can stay with AH.
Someone ask them to fix this.

As long as you can control the shaping you can still give a decent service to the majority of your users,” said Payne.

Lets hope I am in the majority ??????

What is a majority??? 51%

If you like I can forward you their support emails... I spoke to someone else yesterday that has had exactly the same issue.

Please don't forward them, please start a new thread on the issue and post the mail contents in that thread - let's put AH under pressure to sort this out! I for one want to see AH pwn the rest of the market including MWEB for their commitment to the consumer... but that is a blot on their record that needs correction IMO.

Thanks for all your continued support.

It's David vs Goliath time and I promise you that we are going to do our best to deliver the best uncapped service out there!

@Quentinb I am really sorry to hear about the admin that you have been through. Please could you PM me those support mails and I will have a look at it for you. I know we use the IS SMTP server but I am positive there shouldn't be the restrictions imposed that you mentioned. I would love to look into it for you and ensure these are not standard.

Thanks again all!

You may also want to rethink your communications strategy. If you are sending out multiple 2MB emails to multiple parties, perhaps a better approach is to host the files somewhere, and just send links on an individual basis?

Thanks Gian.
Please let us know about this asap - it would be the only factor in my chaning over or staying with AH next week.

Welcome back Gian - glad you survived the tsunami in Hawaii and the Macy's experience (did your visa survive?)

Very exciting times :) Personally I'm sending my notice on my ISP accounts and gonna switch end of April. By then I'm sure there will be good feedback on which ISP is getting uncapped done right.

Just a note though, isn't the news.mweb.co.za just news.saix.net. So a benefit of the mweb accounts is free saix news server access. Something to think about

Afrihost will you be selling month to month accounts or once off accounts that i can randomly purchase month to month

Thanks for all your continued support.

Thanks again all!

Please remind me of the cancellation rules for existing accounts? Is there a months notice required? Will I be able to seamlessly migrate to the uncapped plans? Is a one month sabbatical possible without losing my account and loyalty track record with you?
