Afrihost Uncapped Subscribers Feedback

Turns out it was my own internal network shaping pushing it up to 300ms >.<

Still 100ms + to saix.net during the day sometimes though.

Other than that, no gripes with Afrihost, must be the IS network doing the shaping.

Yep - really bad local ping times (150ms) on Afrihost last night, but international was normal (400-500ms). After 11, local pings dropped to 40ms.

Glad it wasn't just me, but i am hoping its a once off thing. Was working fine on Tuesday night. Seemed my ping was only bad to the SAIX game servers.

Yeah I too had some terrible latency/speed issues the last 2 days. If Fjorko speaks the truth, then that possibly explains it (although others were getting full speed the whole time?) but today fortunately Im back to normal. Full speed on Speednet consistently!!

Had a good night of downloading. Managed about 5.5GB of torrents about about 1.5 GB of normal HTTP downloads (mostly image downloads - background switcher, comical, ember media manager, etc). No complaints. Was running at almost full line speed most of the time (2MB line). Feedback from the rest of the household was good as well (they're mostly active during the day).

Hi Guys

Anybody test PS3 online gaming on 4mb uncapped, i cant seem to get it going, i can connect to PSN but downloads take forever

Are they shaping the PS3 ports

On Afrihost uncapped:
Torrents are not going higher than 22kb/sec
Pings locally 60-120ms
Pings Int 250-500ms

Just switched the account back to my telkom account:
Torrents, full blast with 420kb-460kb
local ping 15-30ms
int ping 250-350ms

Will see what I will get at night. If I get the same specs, I'll cancel as quick as I signed up. But, I think all ISP's are going into the right direction with this.

I'm getting the same - If torrents are this badly shaped during office hours - I'll be moving to Mweb. I'll give it a month and decide.

Personally, I'd rather have 100GB from Mweb, unshaped, than 200GB from Afrihost shaped.

If thats what their respective FUP turn out to be.

oooo yes, i wanna to. Well, i had slow downloads on my axxess prepaid and telkom account on my 4mbps line. i just use ps3proxy to get the link and then use DAP to download at full line speed.

what ive read is that mweb has more shaping than afrihost? Im watching the imagine thread to see the feedback there....

How do you use the PS3proxy in order to get the full line speed? I played online with Afrihost prepaid and its perfect but uncapped struggled in the evening

They actually removed the 200GB clause - now it's 100s of GB ( could be 200,300,400 whatever ) so not real limit - they cannot really put a figure on it, coz then it's not uncapped - period

Well - then shaping a 4MB line isn't uncapped 4MB either - because a 4MB line is capable of moving a certain amount of uncapped data a month, shaping it means it can't move that amount of data - hence it isn't 4MB uncapped.

uh xrapidx I suggest you read the MWeb thread. Shaping exists there too buddy!

And ADSL is a best effort service, there is no guarantee of speed ever with any ISP.

Please don't redefine uncapped to your own purposes. Uncapped simply means you will not be cut off at a predetermined data amount

I doubt any of they ISP's are going to terminate anybody's account the are simply going to shape P2P and Downloads to death if the load on the network is too high. This will make it impossible to "abuse". Kinda like having 100 people try and drink from one can of coke, even if its bottomless you are not going to be able to "drink" hundreds of gigs.
