Afrihost Uncapped Subscribers Feedback

@ Cableguy, that was exactly why I didn't sign up with mweb. Openweb is that good? May give them a look if Afrihost doesn't respond to this issue.

Ok, few questions...

1. Why am i being throttled if i haven't even reached 20GB yet?!
2. Is MWEB better at this? - How long does it take to sign up?
3. Websites don't even load properly, like MyBB, is EVERYONE having these issues?

Any replies would be welcome...

Read the mweb threads to find out that its not all sunshine and roses on that side. And the amount of paperwork one has to fill in really isnt worth it.

Well, I am running at almost full speed. I would say they're great!

1. We don't know.
2. Yes. A few minutes (although I can't verify that over a weekend).
3. No.

1. I was throttled to a standstill at 15GB.
2. On average, it sounds like Mweb users are having a better experience. Apparently you can sign up online now so it should be quickly. (But I stand to be corrected)
3. Yep, I couldn't even get afrihost.com to load.

So you're not the only one with these problems.

Well I don't know if Afrihost reads this...but THROTTLE ME AT 15GIGS AND YOU LOSE ANOTHER CUSTOMER.

Could it be IS or Telkom at fault?....Are we too quickly jumping to blame Afrihost?

Ok well thanks for the replies :)

like to stay with Afrihost but competition seems to be better right now...

R219 is not alot either

From the sounds of things, it definitely seems to be an Afrihost thing. I'm still a little sceptical of saying that they're throttling people prior to 30GB on purpose though. There may well be some issue of which they are unaware, or which they haven't figured out how to solve yet.

This is the response I eventually got from Afrihost!

Hi.

Currently the account is

I see that your uncapped account has already used more then 30Gb of bandwidth, remember at this point your account is then throttled as per our Acceptable Use Policy (AUP).

Below is a extract from our faq page on this particular point: I hope it answers your question....

https://www.afrihost.com/adsl-uncapped-faqs.php

I want to use this account to download heavily - How is my usage going to be throttled if I do download heavily?

This is how we are currently dealing with our Uncapped 4096 accounts:

===============
PLEASE NOTE: These are our current settings we plan to use - however, they may change in the future.

This is our first iteration of a brand new product and we are learning as we go - We are hoping to refine this and over time make the limitations less
===============

On signing up to our Uncapped product you will get our standard ADSL service. (i.e. certain ports are shaped somewhat and web and email are prioritised.)

After you have moved 30 GBs you will be moved into a different category whereby certain ports will be shaped more aggressively. However, web and email will still be prioritised.

After moving a total of 60 GBs you will be moved into a different category where your line speed is throttled to 1024 kbps per second and certain shaping protocols are in place.

After moving a total of 90 GBs then you will be moved into a category where you will be throttled to 512 kbps. Certain shaping protocols will also be in place here.

After moving a total of 120 GBs you will be moved into a category where your line will be throttled to 386 kbps. Certain shaping protocols will also be in place here.

After moving a total of 150 GBs you will be moved into a category where you are throttled to 128 kbps.

You will never be capped.

If you use this account for heavy downloading then you WILL be throttled at some point in the month so please think about whether this account is for you.

Please note: The above explanation is how we are currently planning on dealing with accounts from April but we do reserve the right to change these at any time - The bottom line is that if you intend to use this account for heavy downloading you will be shaped and throttled at some time.

In relation to an account Uncapped 384 kbps DSL: the increments of throttling would be at the 15GB
Have a great day & please feel free to let me know if I can be of further assistance.

Warm regards.

Faraad

And my account is currently standing on 16gb!
So goodbye Afrhost!
I'm gonna cancel my account now and I want to get a refund, because nowhere on the AH site I could get info on softcaps regarding 384k!
AND there not throttling me, they've hit the brakes, handbrake and emergency brakes!
