So far, I can say that Afrihost has lost 9 customers, 3 of my friends and I = 4 + 5 Clients... So.... R497 x 9 = R4473 less in their bank every month... and I only downloaded 15GB... and now I get +-18KB on HTTP Proto.... the rest is even slower...

Just signed up with Openweb, cancelled my Afrihost account, and lodged ASA complaint.

Anyone tried OpenWeb's "High Bandwidth Unshaped ADSL Packages"?
100GB for R929, Unshaped bandwidth Monday to Friday between 13:00pm until 08:00am the following day - P2P and torrents shaped during the Shaping Window. Other ports are open.

Unhappy Afrihost 4 mbps "Uncapped" customer (soon ex)... or was that 40 kbps?

Guess what? Authentication issues again.

I can't figure out how to change from CHAP to PAP on my router (Linksys WAG200G).

That said, even when I had my Billion router connected and changed authentication method it still wouldn't authenticate. Seems to do this over the weekend.

Just to confirm, this only applies to the uncapped acounts right? Because my capped 5GB account is still pretty fast.

Then you're lucky. My 10GB account is moving at 34kB/s . On a 4096 line. What a joy. Already canceled with them. Guess MWEB's the best?

I think it's only related to usage above 30GB [on 4 MB/s lines] and 10GB-15GB [on 384 kbps lines]. Since i'm at 12GB [uncapped 4 MB/s] and have no speed issues either.

Here's mine right now :

So, dunno, either i'm lucky or everyone else are way past 30GB usage and getting nailed by shaping/throttling.

just ran speedtest this morning download speed 0.07 and upload 0.11

Ran another test on my 384 uncapped account got 0.06 down and 0.11 up. really terrible speeds.

So bad, that trying to post this was a mission. I eventually changed to a prepaid account where i had some gigs remaining with axxess. Much better in fact my speeds on this account is 0.34 down and 0.11 up.

Sent a ticket through to afrihost requesting more detail about canceling my account. Lets see what happens.

PS have used up 15Gb so far

can anybody advise how to lodge a complaint with ASA?

http://www.asasa.org.za/Complaint.aspx

I think everyone cancelling is just what Afrihost wants. They are weeding out everyone who would actually use the account and so will only be left with those who pay for uncapped and only use a few gigs a month. The opposite of their original goal of making profit by smaller margins on larger customer base. Now less customers that will be very profitable.

Even if thats the case its not fair imho. I dont want to leave Afrihost but im still left with a feeling of being violated(oky maybe a bit harsh but still). We have 5 computers on this property with different people using it for different reasons. 2 Pcs are basically for online gaming and the rest are for general use. Yes there is an occasional download but definitely not the whole Buffy series cause i cant see why if i want a tv series on my pc i have to download it. Last month alone me and my brother used 28GB on playing MW2 alone. Thats why we went the Afrihost route cause we like them and the service looked very good.

Now our 1st three weeks on Afrihost uncapped has been flawless. Zero complaints from us. But the last week something very strange. There is spikes in the connection. For example we host a game on Modern Warfare 2 and all the connections are brilliant and for 2 seconds everyone gets major lag and then it goes back to normal.

I can understand if you dont want people using your service to abuse it. But with 5 pc's on our net and 2 playing a lot of online gaming we shift 30GB with ease. Will we reach 100GB? I highly doubt that. But now we have a very unstable connection. Even today the connection has dropped 5 times. Thats just not on for me. I understand where they are coming from but now they are punishing everyone instead of cancelling the heavy downloaders accounts.
