I've got 2 emails now stating that only those that signed up before 1 Apr will get a refund! I'm still trying to get a hold of Gian, because I'm not going accept that!
I can't use an account that max out at 2kB/s for the rest of the month!
I'm going to keep fighting for a pro-rata refund! (Help would be appreciated!)

I personally did sign up before 1 April. But I still think that 1 April date is a crock. They didn't change the terms for the 384 account until well after that date. So unless you signed up after they changed the terms, you should still be able to get a refund. Don't back down.

I believe that Afrihost should have the courtesy to at least email their clients when they change their terms.

I'm in exactly the same boat. I'm trying to work out what i'm going to do for the rest of the month.

Perhaps you should open a thread regarding this.

So Afrihost seriously tie your account to the number you have registered in your Client Zone?

Signed up with Afrihost uncapped last week even after reading threads about it on mybroadband. I am happy to report that so far so good. We on 4096kbps line and managed to swallow 20 gigs over the weekend.

Speeds were good and they still are. We have had no problems yet with Afrihost Uncapped.

Speeds will be fine, until you hit 30 gigs +. Then prepare to get old.

Guy

If u haven't noticed all the complaints... go to the start of this thread and read... they are throttling everyone from 30GB

I have read the first page, they said they would shape certain ports from 30GB-60GB not throttle our line speeds (or has this changed?)

Correct. However, if you have used more than 30gigs, certain ports will be throttled / further shaped. (potato - potatoe)

Technically speaking, they still haven't changed their terms for 512k/384k users. Their website still reads,

We have only been offering these solutions for a short time and have not yet monitored the usage of the average user. As such we do not yet know exactly how they will be shaped based. However, as with our 4096 kbps package if you use the account for heavy downloading then there is a good chance that you will be shaped and throttled at some point.

As soon as we have decided exactly how to deal with these accounts we will publish the methodology on our website.

I think 512k/384k users have good grounds to demand unshaped bandwidth, since Afrihost have failed to live up to their commitment stated in the last sentence above.

Nice!. But now that you've opened the box, they'll close it. They can do that you know!

Lol, they seem to be able to do whatever they want. Chances are remote that they'll read my post, however. Afrihost reps seem to have vanished since the end of last month.

Ahhh great, thanks for pointing that out. Ok, so until they do officially change their terms on their website all 384/512 users who cancel now (no matter when they signed up) should be able to get a refund.

So the 1 April date is a crock, as I thought.

...and the silence is worrying. I'm a 384 user who signed up in March and I need to know how they officially plan to deal with 384 accounts. I understand and accept that they employ protocol shaping - I knew this when I signed up - but am not happy if they start throttling my line...

So, does anyone suggest another ISP to use? I have been a fan of Afrihost but if it isn't working out for you guys, than I will rather use Openweb or Axxess.

So I am at 22GB, I will be most unhappy if this happens, as I moved my hosting to them too.
