The problem was Telkom.

I had the same problem, intermittent disconnects, turns out the problem was with Telkom, phoned them up (0800375375) and they reset my line, now everything is fine again, think it was something to do with their 4mb to 8mb line upgrades.

Ran another test on my 384 uncapped account got 0.06 down and 0.11 up. really terrible speeds.

So bad, that trying to post this was a mission. I eventually changed to a prepaid account where i had some gigs remaining with axxess. Much better in fact my speeds on this account is 0.34 down and 0.11 up.

Sent a ticket through to afrihost requesting more detail about canceling my account. Lets see what happens.

PS have used up 15Gb so far

Got a response to my support ticket. Yup, my account is throttled because i used more then 10Gb's. Throttling a 384 line is like switching off my account, the download speed is just useless, so i will be forced to cancel my account.

If the problem is Telkom - how does changing to another ISP (also IS) improve speeds?

He was talking about the random disconnects. Not the speed.
I had 3 disconnects on my (brand new) mweb account. Not sure if its a coincidence, but after I left my router powered off for 5 minutes it stopped disconnecting.

Crap!
Have used 13.5gig's so far over 12 days. Surely they can't shape a 384 line. Then it's not useable. Will have to consider my loyalty stance.

Surprised you haven't seen your speeds come down if you have used 13.5 gigs. My internet was basically crawling, even local sites took forever to load.

Throttling on a 384 line is really amounts to you not being able to to do much. My upload speeds were faster then my download speeds, how whack is that.

My 384 account was severely throttled at 15GB. So much so that it was completely unusable. I couldn't even access the Afrihost site. I call that capped. I had no other option but to cancel. Quite sad actually.

Oh ya i also struggled to get into the afrihost clientzone. If you cancel do you get anything back for the days remaining of the month for which you will not be using the service?

Just checked into the client zone. Done on average 22meg per hour. So i think i've been hit! If i work it out, the "break-even" at 15 gigs. If i can't use it thereafter, i haven't lost anything. However....there is a little more i'd like to download. Not much, say 30gigs for the month.

Shaping to 5K all the time is outrageous. This account is now 100% useless for anything other than basic browsing.

I'm still waiting to hear back from their accounts department. I'm prepared to pay for the 9 days I used the account, but considering they didn't deliver what they promised when I signed up, they had better refund the rest of the month.

I've got 2 emails now stating that only those that signed up before 1 Apr will get a refund! I'm still trying to get a hold of Gian, because I'm not going accept that!
I can't use an account that max out at 2kB/s for the rest of the month!
I'm going to keep fighting for a pro-rata refund! (Help would be appreciated!)

Afrihost seems good to me

Signed up with Afrihost uncapped last week even after reading threads about it on mybroadband. I am happy to report that so far so good. We on 4096kbps line and managed to swallow 20 gigs over the weekend.

Speeds were good and they still are. We have had no problems yet with Afrihost Uncapped.
