Afrikaans schools, discriminatory?

I was in matric last year and I had to have 2 languages. I don't know if it was just the school that forced us to have 2 or whether it is the law.

Nope, it seems the only standard is that you have to have two in grade 12.

The school did not force you to enroll with them.

If they had more funds (from government and school fees) then they could afford to employ more teachers and offer a more comprehensive curriculum.

Unfortunately the reality is that virtually all (non-private) schools are struggling financially and our Department of Education is in an administrative and financial mess.

Hence you are stuck.

Adapt or find another school.

To not discriminate. Putting people into groups are very counter revolutionary..
Yes our schools are a joke. Sly should not be angry about having to learn afrikaans He should be angry that you only have to pass with 30% on lower grade.
Because they did not take everything up to HG they dropped it down to LG. And we still have only 30% of a group of children that starts grade one pass grade 12.

Lovely. Its that time of year again. Grade 12 finals.
 
So all these rural schools in KZN I have been to that teach in Zulu is not a problem?

I watched 10 mins on a learning channel one night... matric exams are a joke and maths lit a ridiculous one.

I watched that open university channel or whatever it is called one night and all those people sitting in class look like they have glazed doughnuts for eyes.

All I know is if those people are university students then god have mercy on this country because they come across as retarded (with no disrespect to the genuinely handicapped people out there).

Just read in the local paper a 8yr old raped a baby, I'm so tired & despondent that I want to leave. things will never come right, we are fscking doomed. Depression is not my forte but hell I'm becoming submissive :cry:
 
The department of education should force the teaching in English nationally. Doesn't matter if the school is in the middle of Khayelitsha
. It's in the best interest of South Africa as a whole. Hopefully then we will stop getting responses such as "eeee....eish..eeeee".
Keep your mother-tongue for home and social life. The workplace is AN English environment almost all the time.

You are right Elite. My S/O teaches languages so she keeps up with this stuff. Most African languages are not doing well on creating terminology for scientific terms. Afrikaans however is one of those languages that language scholars work very hard to keep updated to today's terminology.

To the orignal poster, do you like pissing people off? With a title like that you are asking for it. In a perfect world we would have schools that teach a home language but the fact is this country is hurting in a bad way for language teachers. Very few are studying languages now. Afrikaaners love their language and they are the majority that continue to study it for teaching purposes. If more people studied their home language to teach then I would have no problem with schools changing their language classes to fit their demographic area. We don't have that though do we?

If it really bugs you that bad then stop freaking bitching, stop slamming Afrikaaners, go to university and study your home language to teach at your local school. Until you and all these others that bitch about Afrikaans being taught as a language do that just then freaking hush! If you don't like it then get up and do something about it.

Oh and for the record, I am English. I am just really tired of people pissing about, slamming people and then not lifting a finger to resolve an issue.

Edit: When I mean teaching a language I mean as an extra....you are right Ekstasis, every South African should be taught English. If you are going to survive in the working world you have to know and be able to speak English.
