It's all about interpretation. I did my Grade 8 and 9 at a township school and my dad decided that I should go to a model C school so that I don't end up being influenced to be in a gang and then go into crime or do drugs and other things. So I went to a model C school and was told that it is compulsory for me to take English (which is fine) and Afrikaans (which I wasn't happy with). I tried looking for other model C schools but they all had the same policy. My dad told me to go attend that model C school since it's better than being influenced by people with no direction in life. Now for me I had 2 choices, it's either I attend a model C school and be "forced" (that's how I felt) to take Afrikaans or I go back to a township school and run the risk of being in a gang and die early in life like some of my friends.
