The article states that you can use the single device as a add on the the other 3, or standalone AP. But one the site that sells them, https://wifistore.co.za/ yes, the site with the expired cert, they say it's only for a extension for the triple pack. So, wonder if they will sell you one if you did not buy a 3 pack. Actually both sites say only to be used as an extension...

The real reason for the single is actually the extension to the the triple pack

However, nothing is stopping you using a single as a standalone as well.
